Wink Now that I'm "grown up"

My first gig was 1983...Circle Jerks...I was 16.

I'm 43 now but somehow the punker in me is stronger than ever. I have to have an outlet for it. So, I figured I'll do it where I am. I'll do it as a teacher. I'll use words, images and sounds and I'll try to communicate clearly to my students and use leadership wisely.

I just wrote a blog about how research (knowledge) is like music (esp. rare records), it's power. If you believe in that and you want something to read, come check it out:

The math doesn't add up. You can't be 43 now and have been 16 in 1983. That's 25 years ago. You could be 19 or you could've been 18.

Trust me, the older I get, the more I forget. Okay, I was 18. My bad. My birthday is in November. Hey, that's this month!

Talking

Wait, I just remembered why I always think that. Friday, August 26, 1983 was Summer Skankoff at Perkins Palace in Pasadena. The lineup was Circle Jerks, Channel 3, MDC, The Dicks, and D.R.I.. I know that because I'm looking at the flier now.

That was the first gig I ever went to at a "large" hall with a slam pit. And yes, I slammed. I still have scars on my legs the shape of a spiked bracelet.

However....prior to that I went to many gigs at the Concert Factory in Costa Mesa, the first one being Social Distortion when I was 16, which I guess was 1981.

Even if you don't care, it was a blast to think about that. Thank you.

Whooo Hoooo.....! I used to go up to the Concert Factory all the time. I was a bad kid who was always sneaking out on a school nite to take in a few of my favorite groups.

Me too! I was at Concert Factory weekly and on the weekends we'd take a taxi there and get drunk behind the liquor store. I lived in Costa Mesa back then. Good times. I'll have to rummage up a photo of me from "back in the day"

I dunno if this will work or not but here are some old photos from back then. I was a junky. Junkies don't generally own cameras and pay photo processing fees, so this is all I have.
