Default band name change question

If my band decides to change it's name, if there a way to change the profile name and profile address to the new name of the band without having to delete the whole profile and create a new one from scratch?

Sorry, you can't change your username. You can change your display name, but that only shows on your profile page.

In order to change your name site-wide, you have to create a new account.

But that kind of sucks for bands in this particular situation, doesn't it? What is the purpose behind this regulation, may I ask? I'm just curious about it so I can understand what this rule was designed to accomplish, when I go back to the guys to explain why it's not possible.

FYI: My band recently replaced our bass-player and added a guitarist/keyboard player, and the guys are interested in changing the band's name.

It's not a rule, but a system limitation. Your username is the key that links all the different features of the site together, so it can't be changed. The issue comes up occasionaly, but not often. Unfortunately to change that would require a significant rewrite of the system, so it's not feasible.

Sorry.
