Thumbs up Lou Reed- Rock n Roll Animal

Where do I begin?

I heard about the Velvet Underground, I know the singer is Lou Reed. I saw this album and downloaded it to my iPod. In short, great rock n roll. Alot better than what people around me consider "rock" these days. I'll tell my opinion about each song in a nutshell.

Intro/Sweet Jane- Nice introduction to a great rock n roll CD.

Heroin- This was a bit long (12 minutes), but a great song no doubt. I liked the end when the tempo picked up a bit.

White Light/White Heat- My personal favorite song. Nice tempo, lyrics and rhythm.

Lady Day- My second favorite. The chorus is catchy as hell and got me singing it.

Rock n Roll- Perfect outro to this album. Singing about rock n roll on the radio. Good stuff good stuff.

This is the companion concert/show, it's equally as good!

This is a good album, nice versions of the Velvets songs. The only Lou Reed/Velvets album my boomer dad likes. But he likes Steely Dan, so fuck it.

When talking about Lou Reed Classics, this IS a must have. And Conthrash, what's wrong w/ Steely Dan? If they're good enough for the Minutemen, they're good enough for me. (But that's only my opinion)

Thumbs up

Lou Reed did a lot of re-recording of the VU songs. I guess from Rock`n`Roll Animal only Lady Day is his solo original. Next you might want to try something like Transformer or even check the VU albums for his first original recordings.

Oh Jesus, I LOVE metal machine music! It is so fun to listen to when you're stoned out of your gourd on hallucinogens!
Also, if you like "Lady Day" check out the original version from "Berlin." The whole album is a gem, one of my all time favorite albums from any artist in any genre, produced by Bob Ezrin (Alice Cooper, Kiss, Pink Floyd).
For the hardest, most punk music Lou Reed ever did outside of the Velvet Underground check out the title track to the album "The Blue Mask."

I love Rock-n-Roll animal. Lou Reed looks jaundiced and crazy throughout the album and delivers his lyrics like an insane bomber. The band he's using is Bob Ezrins studio musicians, including Dick Wagner. Here's some of Dick's early work:

You'll love that if you like 60's garage punk.
Another very hard and dark song by Lou Reed is "Kill your sons" from "Sally Can't Dance"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZ1_ye8jyZI
Also from "the Blue Mask" is a song called "the Heroine"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jBNzQqjKJI
Which I did a cover song of in the early 90's...
To hear my version of the song go here:

find my playlist, and scroll down to "the Heroine"!
Happy listening. I'm glad you've stumbled upon Lou Reed, he is one of my biggest heroes!

I've not had any experience of Lou Reed apart from Transformer and a dire performance I once saw on VH1 classic, but Transformer is a fantastic album, I think I love every track on it.

Wow, surprising kids these days still like lou, I love the guy, a total dick, one of the biggest in music but has moments of genius throughout his career, between 1982 and 1986 hes was in my top ten listening list-nodays live he is too risky-some truely aweful shows are the norm but a few incredible ones scattered in. Lou is one of the few people i will consider a musical genius though.

I bought Transformer recently. It was good. Specially "New York Telephone Conversation", it's just so fun to listen to.
