Default NASA: 2010 Will Probably Be Hottest Year on Record

You can think of El Niņo as adding another few logs on a preexisting fire. Only in this analogy, human activities such as the burning of fossil fuels are also adding their own kindling at the same time.

everyone panicked when gasoline went up to $4.50 + the summer of 08, and many started driving smaller cars or motorcycles, now they're parking the hybrids, back to the gas guzzlers...can't intimidate anyone on the freeway in a Prius...

it cracks me up when people drive hybrids and have go green stickers everywhere and they still burn wood in their fireplace...

So far that's not true in Vegas. Average temps have been 10 degrees below normal and we've already had 4 times the rainfall for this year. Maybe at Houston or Cape Canaveral but not here.

But that's typical in an El Niņo year - at least it is here. Cold, wet winters followed by hot, dry summers. Right now we're running noticably warmer than a week ago.

We'll see. If it breaks 117 this summer I'll believe ya because it was that 2 years ago. BTW the record is 118 Jul 26th 1931. Btw the 10 day for here, more rain next thursday.

Most of the records here were established in the '30s. Global warming my ass.

Im not sure but one year about 15 years ago we had a blizzard in April. I think it was an El Nino year as well. Either way, we have had some crazy weather here this year.

I think 1998 was the last big El Nino - that was a big one. It just goes to show how a an ocean temperature change of a few degrees can really fuck with the weather.

Yeah, thatīs right. But people seem to forget that often and jump steady to diminish the potential dangers of a global scale warming. And yet here are phenomenons like El Niņo to show how fragile the balance really is.
