Anyone seen Kwaidan? It's a classic, the grandfather of Japanese horror films.
For all its perceived faults, Texas Chainsaw Massacre is still a favorite of mine. It's one of the few hack-and-slash movies that's also a legitimate horror film.

Normally I wouldn't bother posting a link like this (let alone try to explain why I enjoy the film), but I'm wide awake and must remain so for at least another four hours, so here goes: this little gem is called Encounter With the Unknown. If low-budget '70s drive-in flicks turn you off, proceed no further...but if you're intrigued by the idea that perception is everything, or if you understand (and derive pleasure from) the fact that manipulation is part of the storyteller's art, or if you simply appreciate the efforts of filmmakers with limited funds and technical expertise but lots of imagination, then by all means click the link! Pointing out this movie's flaws is like shooting fish in a barrel, but see if you can figure out what makes it work
It's narrated (partially) by Rod Serling.http://stagevu.com/video/iubbzkhegpry

I like Texas Chainsaw too. I never wasted my time with the remake. You can't remake perfection.

I didn't see it, either--the approach is all wrong nowadays and the things that pass for horror films are just disasters.
