I work with a retired police captain and I've had the same discussion over and over again with him and other retired captains that VETS DO NOT MAKE GOOD COPS AT ALL. This is coming from a vet who could have been whisked to the front of the line when it came to getting hired. Vets DO NOT have a concept of justice if they did not serve in law enforcement before they joined the service. They always think they are right even when they are dead wrong on multiple counts and threaten their superiors when their ethics are questioned. The UCMJ is a farce when it comes to due process. This is the reason military police do not get civil law enforcement. The only vets that make good cops weren't military police or had anything to do with the UCMJ. I'd rather be tried by Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin rather than go in front of a military tribunal. One of my best friends dad is a retired JAG Colonel and he said he was sick and done with the American Justice system both civil and military.

Of course there are injustices and some decisions that could be considered bad after the fact. I really think people don't understand how hard it is being in the police's shoes making these decisions.
As for the comment made about racial profiling... well if the shoe fits right? I've been screwed with the by the police for being a skinhead. I don't cry about it. I choose to look the way i do and i accept the consequences. If you're hispanic, shave your head and dress like a cholo it's the same thing... It's not like some upstanding black youth gets shot for looking shady. It's some criminal black youth gets shot for acting shady.
The Zimmerman deal was a media circus to get people off the subject of Wall Street. I agree the kid was likely a troublemaker. Still though after it all it's never been made clear if the shooting was called for. I don't swing either way on the case because it distracts from real issues.

Would skullhead be so happy to deal with the consequences if it was him or a relative of his who was shot?

fucking horrific
NYPD has the same problem that any large metropolitan police department has which is a demand for way too many cops to keep in line. Yeah, the fucked up NYPD stories are true. I've know some of them first hand. A lot of old NYC hardcore heads ended up as NYPD. Some fucked up dudes and some alright honest guys. Problem is quality control in a force that size. If you aren't going to pay them real salaries they aren't going to act like real cops. Same goes for the positions that monitor them. Not to mention when you get a mayor who buys out the NYPD integral shit gets neglected. I know for a fact most earn peanuts and still live with their parents even in their 30's and 40's.

my dad is a retired jag colonel, and one of the reasons i grew to despise him so much is the fact that he believes so much in military style justice and takes a "guilty-until-proven-innocent" view on the subject of due process and suspect rights.
