THE New York Dolls are heading to Scotland next week - almost 40 years after one of the most important meetings in punk rock history.
The US band formed a bond with Vivienne Westwood and Malcom McLaren at a fashion show in New York in 1970, and influenced McLaren to put together the Sex Pistols. Guitarist Sylvain Sylvain said: "Me and Jimmy Murcia, the first New York Dolls drummer, had a clothing company called Truth & Soul Sweaters. "We displayed at one of the trade shows in New York in 1970 and at the end of the hall was a company from England. "They were called Let It Rock and it turned out to be Malcolm McLaren and Vivienne Westwood. That was their first time over in the US to sell to boutiques. "On the last night of the show, the designers, companies and sales people had all made friends, so I invited David Johansen and Johnny Thunders over and we hooked up with Vivienne and Malcolm. read more
