It makes for the most boring news footage watching mansions burn down. While fat cats are collecting insurance, people not so well off are losing all of their possessions. Where's that story?

well they've burned over 100,000 acres so far.
Square acres, or what? That's only about 316 acres each direction. And acres are about 210 feet in each direction.

So... 25 acres per mile... So about 6.5 miles in each direction.

So, 42.25sq miles...

On second though, get the fuck out of there.

Our house (VIXXEN and I) made it last night. The firefighters KICKED ASS and were really calm when the flames came up to our backyard. For more than 45 minutes they fought for my house!

On a day like this I do not mind being a tax payer. They rocked and saved the day when I really thought my house was going to go up in flames! We gave them a couple of the Punkrockers.com T-shirts and hats! Then they went on to save the next house and so on and so on!

Living there I thought it was a crazy place. I thought there was a lot of warped and demented mentality that I got a real kick out of. I may be inclined to think of the fires as some kind of devine retribution on the population for being so smug and pompus. It's cool all you Socal residents the Tri-State is the same way, we just didn't get fires. Then again we do sit on a nasty dormant fault line that will someday level the unprepared area.

I am glad to hear you guys are still OK. It sucks having to sit around wondering if your house is still going to be there...and there isn't a damn thing you can do about it.

I used to feel that way everyday I went to work in my high school days. Had these roommates that destroyed everything in their path...On my way home from work every night I would wonder if the house was still standing...but I digress.

The thing that seems to suck more than anything to me is where neighborhoods were mostly destroyed except for a few houses. Those homeowners have is worse... They still have a house, but its value is almost nothing because, until they clean the neighborhood up, the property value has got to be pretty low. Furthermore, if they wanted to move (like a lot of people might after this), they will have a hard time getting a good price for their house.

Plus, they've temporarily lost all of their neighbors.

That neighborhood will be rebuilt in no time flat! This is California man. The surviving houses don't have to worry about property value dropping....think about it, they are the first houses in a BRAND NEW neighborhood!!

The minute those fires are extinguished, construction will begin.

A lot of really expensive houses have gone down. But I am sure people will not move. They will just rebuild. Like another person said, "It's California man". People who are rich here will most likely not want to leave. Although I am sure there will be plenty people leaving, probably only temporarily.

dont forget.
Property values will be affected more by crime if it happens. If there's more crime, than they will go down. Also, a fire stricken area can always reflare up, that will lower the values itself.

Made it home today. The house is still standing. All of my stuff is safe and I am clear to live in my house again. Firefighter did an awsome job. I hope everyone else is fairing well in this unfortunate incident.
