Emo is just a fashion trend that got popularized by a bunch of shitty bands a few years ago. It's just like grunge, and hair metal before that. It probably had a small little scene somewhere and some media guy thought, "hey, I could make some money off of this!" Trust me, it's on life support, pretty soon you'll see less and less of it until somewhere around 2020 and then you'll see it on VH1 Classics.

You're right, and I don't. I think the problem here is that everyone gets frustraited because whenever you turn on the music channel, be it VH1 or MTV or whatever as far a rock is concerned that is all you get. I never watch those, I don't care for them, but I use to go out with a girl who did watch them. I remember one day with her I think I saw the same damn Panic At The Disco vid like five times in an hour! It just wears on people, you can't seem to avoid it, and nothing you like gets air time. I'm seventeen and I watch VH1 Classics, because at least there you can see a Clash, Stooges, or whatever video. Thank god for YouTube, otherwise I wouldn't get to see shit!

YEA, mtv AND vh1 are a waste of time as far as music is concerned. its all hip hop or poppy punk crap. thats why i just buy music video collections of the stuff i like. im actually really into those random compilation CD's you find at the ass-end of the music shop, or hidden in the links of itunes. it exposes me to a lot of stuff i wouldnt have known existed otherwise.

I do go look for things and buy it as well. But I don't live in and area that's not particularly good for music, the record shops are very thin in content. I spent the entire day a while back trying to find ANY Johnny Thunders material. Not a thing, I check record stores, thirft shops, nothing. And being seventeen, short on money, and without a credit card the ebay can be difficult. So yeah, I honestly see your point, but the emo thing does wear on me after a while, even if I do turn the channel.

Oh shoot, I hadn't thought of that. I don't have one at the moment, I'm kinda in the process of moving out of mums flat, I don't graduate high school till spring. But yeah thanks for that, I guess that gives me incentive to get down to that bank. And as far as record stores go, it's very sad. Yeah I was sort pissed when mine left, there was a guitar shop in the back, and they put a moving away notice on the door. So I went to the new location only to find out they hadn't brought the record store along with it. There did just happen to be a Best Buy across the street, that only added to my hate of big super stores! It really suck when you have to go to a discount store to find your music.

The hippie movement never died out, it just got smaller, just like the punk movement. Both have resurgances now and again both in the music and the sub-culture that follows it. Emo may or may not end up the same way.

Some of them have serious mental and emotional issues, while others do it for attention. It's hard to distinguish between the two at first glance. Just because someone is a rich white kid doesn't mean everything in their life is good and they have nothing to complain about.

Emo isn't a fashion trend - it's a sub-style of music.

From Wikipedia:
Starting in the mid-1990s, the term emo began to refer to the indie scene that followed the influences of Fugazi, which itself was an offshoot of the first wave of emo. Bands including Sunny Day Real Estate and Texas Is the Reason had a more indie rock style of emo, more melodic and less chaotic. The so-called "indie emo" scene survived until the late 1990s, as many of the bands either disbanded or shifted to mainstream styles. As the remaining indie emo bands entered the mainstream, newer bands began to emulate the mainstream style. As a result, the term "emo" became a vaguely defined identifier rather than a specific genre of music.

Thanks, done.

I think that ties in with my point, alot of the emo kids don't listen to Fugazi, or even have heard of them for that matter. They like the look, that's their thing, and I have no problem with that. But what I'm trying to say is that whenever people start to focus more on the apperance that the content thats when the fashion aspect really starts to set in and the music becomes secondary. I honestly believe that some day bands like MCR will just be a distant memory alot like alot of the cookie-cutter bands that have come from so many other genres. Like how glam rock got hijacked from it's roots a few short years after the New York Dolls split and Bowie started to go in a new direction

Division within any subculture creates weakness condemning any creation to falter.

The emo genre I could personally care as much as I do about the psychobilly genre.

Translation: I don't care.

People are people and if they are civil to me I will treat them with the same respect even if they are emo.

The term emo to me is a derivative distant shadow of the new wave kids. Do any of these labels even matter anymore.
