i've been following the tread on
the guy that bought some jacket on ebay.
everyone says its not DIY
because he didn't make it.
me and my friend make each other clothes
all the time.
and i still consider it DIY.
as long as yer doing SOMETHING

Yes, that would be DIY. You're doing it yourself. And they're doing it themselves and giving it to you. This kid is buying something from someone. He's not doing anything other than buying.
Also, he's a twit.

You and your friends colaberating together as a joint effort is fine.
Buying something from someone you've never even met off of a website is not.

My converse high tops are totally diy. I picked them out myself, and I paid for them with my own money, and I created the child slave labor that sherpa'd the bag to the car for me.

Plain and Simple.... You and your friends put things and bands you like on your jackets, pants, vests, etc...
He's buying stuff that was already made, with bands he has no idea who they are, made by people he doesn't know...
That's the difference.
You aren't trying your hardest to be something you aren't by covering yourself with overpriced "punk" clothes and accessories.
He is.

It's just not right any way why would you want someone you dont know made, and when you make it yourself its kinda like you earned it, like you deserve it. It different it its like a token of friendship or a gift, It's just against the meaning of DIY to pay for it simply. Its kinda insulting you know, well whateverdrink(*&
