the wheat feild on wclh scranton, in 1997 it was the local college radio punk/hardcore show. and i rember every time it was on the hosts would play skinheads rule by no redeeming social value, and they would always sing along to the song, and they would always play what i asked for.
i guess the only reason why i bring this up is because i recently wanted to hear filler by minor threat so i called into whatever the "punk" show on there is now and the dj said "who?" has this happemned to anyone eles' college station?

Its not just at college stations...I gave up on radio ages ago. But I've been thinking about doing a web thing for a while. I don't know if people would listen to it though.

When I was a kid I loved listening to KROQ and 91 X. WTF has happened. I agree. radio is pointless now.

Yeah twice to me!!
I called up for a request of the old home town heroes DDT and they had no idea what I was on about.
Same show I called asking for Poison Idea and Circle One to an astounding sea of Uhhhhh..........

I used to guest dj on my friends radio show sometimes. People only ever called in to request Atreyu or As I Lay Dying or some other such garbage.

Uhhhhhh.....my all time fav response to radio requests! And it was usually followed up by we're only playing punk for this block.

Precisely true, When I used to do a college show at least if I had never heard of the band which happened sometimes even though I'm pretty well versed on what's out there. I would ask where they were from and I'll see about getting it on next weeks show.
Pissed off point #1 (Or first call and how this situation went down by the numbers)
I mean DDT were from Atlanta, They put out an EP, LP and toured. They're documented in books. It's a hardcore show and they don't know who they were.
Pissed off point #2 (Second call, Or I'm aware I'm dealing with someone who has not done most of their homework)
I call up to request Circle One and they Uhhh.... so I try to make it a little easier and I say, "What about Poison Idea?" and the Uhhh's....come out to play again! Finally I say "Well what about the Adolescents!" Oh, okay I have some stuff by them what do you want to hear? I said "I Love You of off Brats in Battalions" LP Uhhhh........... Okay just play "Self Destruct" off the 1st LP. The "okay, thank you" reply is emitted and telephone silence begins..............
Maybe it's odd of my own personal expectation since I have done those types of shows in the past but cramming all your shit onto a tiny IPOD and hitting shuffle just seems incredibly lame to me. On this particular show it's so obvious it becomes insulting. I can tell from the song qualities that they are all downloaded and I'm sure everyone else can as well. When a "HALF HOUR SET" of the Minutemen or the Descendents is obviously a blatant excuse to leave the booth, grab some smokes, get a blow job, give head.......whatever you've lost my attention! Love the Minutemen and the Descendents but that's not why I tuned in. Oh and "Self Destruct" never got played either.

I think the worst part about college radio now is all the bullshit "indie" crap kids like. I do a show at my college and the selection is so fucking limited, I just end up playing Hank Williams, reggae and weird shit like Gogol Bordello for 2 hours.
I lucked out though, one of the directors is really laid back and wants me to have my own crust//anarcho//oi show next semester. In a town where everyone likes either DMB or DMX, it'll be sure to piss some people off.

i don't really hate the "indie" stuff, but when i call into a "punk" show and they say "who?" to a band request like minor threat, i belive there is something wrong, or maybe i'm just becoming an old fart, i just don't know anymore.
thats pretty impressive lameness on that radio stations part. id quite like to DJ or do a radio station. i like to think id do a good job, but i cant be fucked carting all my CDs around with me.
