How correct is that map? I find it hard to believe that less than 35% of people in my county are religious, I live in fucking Jesusland. America is way more religious than that map indicates, there's no way people are that secular in the Bible Belt. The numbers I commonly hear is 90% of Americans believe in god and 80% are Christian.

but anyway, lol Utah

I got the same number...maybe it refers to them going to church?

Well, the problem with those numbers(the whole 90% and 80%) is that you rely on the idea that an appropriate cross section of the public was used for the survey. I mean, 9 out of 10 times you get the vocal minority of any group surveyed and in religion, 10 out of 10 times you get the vocal minority. With it being such a personal subject and such a divisive one you can expect to hear from the self-righteous and the zealots. Not that all religious people are zealots, and not only zealots respond to surveys. But really, you have to look at how the survey was administered and exactly WHO they talked to? What were the criteria for the survey that created that map?

Honestly, I live in a small, rural, Southern town. Barely a blip on the map here. Yes, there are a lot of religious people here. More churches than carwashes, fast food restaraunts and hotels combined. But when surveyed, they found the area to be only 35% religious. Mostly because people didn't want to talk about their religion. I thought that was an interesting point. Surveys only show results by the criteria imposed upon them.

Yeah, those figures for my area don't make any sense compared to Cook County, Illinois. I lived there, and I'd say there are a ton more "religious adherents here".

Exactly! I'm a Sociology major currently and it's always been that way when we administer surveys.

I'd have to agree this thing isn't entirely accurate. There isn't enough red in NM or ID.

That's becaue people don't actually live in Idaho. What happens is... Idaho is used solely for growing potatos, and when it's time to harvest them, everybody crosses the border into Idaho for a few days to pick them.

Agreed. My county is in the 30-50%, even though my hometown was created and is still actively run by Moravians. Yeah, I don't know what the fuck that is either, but I know they all love Jesus.

They're a protestant denomination started in Bohemia.
