I've finally been given a reason to highly respect paramedics and firemen. I recently saw a legitamently bad car wreck. A drunk driver swerved and hit a van that was coming off the freeway. they didn't just collide. The van was flipped on its side from the impact. At the time i was with my friend's mom who is a nurse. She stopped her car right in front of the van and we both got out. It was about 10 at night so we couldn't see much.

I wasn't phased much by the fact that a van was on its side till i noticed the driver's side window was open. It was on the side of the van that was on the floor. There was blood streaming out of the window like some horror movie. Amazingly enough the woman inside was still conscious and able to talk. I heard her say that she had kids at home. I had never been that close to an accident in my life. The drunk driver in the other car ran off somewhere.

anyways do any of you have any car accidents you'd like to share?

No, but in a similar vein... I once saw this drunk old man fall over and hit his head on the sidewalk. He was bleeding profusely all over the place.

The paramedics came to help him... They knew his name. Then the cops came... They knew his name, too. Then the cop made a motion of drinking to me. I guess this happens to the guy a lot. Anyway, it was sad, and there was a ton of blood all over the sidewalk.

Yeah.
A few staples in my head and a bottle of ripple in my gut and I was fine.

I wittnesed a car accident that happened in front of me driving through the desert. It was a SUV filled with people in the early morning. The driver fell asleap and swirved off the road. The suv did a couple flips. I was the first one to pull over and called for help. I helped get people out of the suv and was holding a little girl covered in blood. As the paramedics arrived there was a woman in her 60's that was injured that was laying in the dirt. She was still allive and coherant. The paramedics came up laughin and jokin and we all watched that woman die. The family tried to perform CPR but the paramedics prevented anyone from doing it. I don't know if they have an age limit that they say who cares but they did nothing to help her. Anyway after that I don't have much faith in paramedics.

That must have really had a major effect on you. I've even spoken with people that receive post traumatic stress disorder, just from seeing someone hurt like that.

I hope your okay, if you need to talk let me know.

Anyways, my father works at a rehabilitation center. There is a woman that is currently a patient at his work, who was in a car accident. The bottom half of her body had severe burns, and unfortunately she didn't take care of them. She now has bed sores, and other infections over her legs, and bottom. They want to remove everything from the hip bone down. So basically she'll be a torso...

My father's company has a policy where they assign each individual person working there to one person. They go in, and talk with patient, trying to make them feel a bit more comfortable.

When my dad recently went in she said that she was going to commit suicide. She said that no matter what, she was going to do it. Whether or not she got the surgery, she made a promise she was going to do it.

My dad is a very empathetic man, and he feels like she should have the right to CHOSE whether or not she wants to die. This is totally inappropriate, with any client I had I would of course report it...

Do you think we have a right to chose when we die?

Have you ever heard of a man named Dr. Jack Kevorkian? He is most noted for publicly championing a terminal patient's right to die via physician-assisted suicide and claims to have assisted at least 130 patients to that end. He has famously stated, "dying is not a crime."

It was previously thought that his activities earned him the nickname of Dr. Death but he said in his June 2007 Larry King Live interview that he already had this nickname due to having been a pathologist who performed many autopsies. The impression he gave in the interview was that this nickname was affectionately given (such as one's friends or peers might do). It is true that all the media attention he gained made Dr. Death a much more broadly known moniker for him (usually used with negative connotation). [citation needed]

Imprisoned in 1999, he served eight years out of his 10-to-25-year prison sentence for second-degree murder in the 1998 poisoning of Thomas Youk, 52, of Oakland County, Michigan. Kevorkian was released from prison on June 1, 2007, possibly due to failing health from his diabetes.

He would always video tape his patients so he had documented proof that they requested to die through physician help.

What do you think about this?

I think that, if people want to die, they have a right to die... As long as they're infringing on the rights of others (i.e. not suicide bombing or something/taking others with them/etc).

ive seen quite a few pretty brutal car accidents, where peopel get hit, and go flying through the air, ive also been in a few pretty bad ones, thankfully no serious injuries,
but at teh moment, the only car accident on my mind, is my aunts fatal car accident that occured on april 17 =[

heres' the news story, from rimoftheworld.com:

"RIMFOREST - A fatal accident occurred along Highway 18 just to the west of Pine Street on Tuesday at 11:35 AM. According to the San Bernardino County Coroner's Office, Heather Kay Bachman, 33, of Crestline was traveling southbound on Highway 18 behind a white construction truck. The construction truck side-swiped a northbound tractor trailer carrying roof trusses, causing lumber debris to fall on Bachman's vehicle and spill into both lanes. Witnesses said that it appeared that Bachman suffered a fatal head injury, causing her 2002 Ford Explorer to veer over the side of the roadway and about 150 feet down the embankment.

Both the construction vehicle and tractor trailer remained on the roadway and stopped in nearby turnouts. There are no reports of injuries to either of those drivers. Bachman was pronounced dead at 11:50 AM by paramedics. Highway 18 was closed between Lake Gregory Drive and Pine Street for about four hours.

The coroner arrived at 1:45 PM and firefighters were recalled to extricate the Bachman's body from the vehicle. There was some concern that there might have been additional victims in the accident. There were no other victims in Bachman's vehicle.

This is the third fatal accident along that section of Highway 18 within the past month. "

That would be really weird to just be walking around and see and old man fall over and bleed like that.

What did you do, just stand there?

thats pretty much what my friend's mom did with the woman, while i yelled at people to stop standing around and call 911. It was a moment like that where i really wish i had my phone. we were in a bad neighborhood and all the people standing around were mexican gangsters.

yeah, i've seen a friend's corpse after he commited suicide with a pistol shot to the head. That really warped me inside. this didn't hit me as much. I've been to shrinks and stuff but they always tell me things that i already know about myself.

Most psychiatrists think that only talking about your problem, and disecting it until you've realized every single reason why your messed up is the answer. I'm not one of those people, I search out the reasons why your troubled, but then we discuss how we are going to "better ourselves".

Pop-psychology is lame.
