my first album review on here!!!
10 songs= track by track review-
1. "Send Away the Tigers" – 3:36
good opening song, nice to see the Manics sounding like this again, would've fit in nicely on Everything Must Go from 1996. 8/10
2. "Underdogs" – 2:49
Pretty good rock song, not really into the lyrics though and the hook isn't too catchy, but still a decent song 6/10
3. "Your Love Alone Is Not Enough" – 3:55
This has got to be one of the best songs I've heard in quite a long time, I've probably listened to it no less than 40 times in the last few days and it has only now started to get old, great song 11/10
4. "Indian Summer" – 3:54
This song is more akin to the last few Manics albums (or what I've heard of them), which means its slower and not that good 4/10
5. "The Second Great Depression" – 4:09
Damn this song it way too bloated and the lyrics are bad which makes me miss Richey 3/10
6. "Rendition" – 2:59
Best song about secret prisons I've ever heard and very catchy, especially love the chorus and the lyrics 9/10
7. "Autumnsong" – 3:40
Another slower song, it's songs like these that make me wish they would ditch the violins and synths and go back to being a straight rock band again, but I do like the guitar solos and the line "Wear your love like it’s made of hate,
Born to destroy and born to create", it has potential but overall 5/10
8. "I'm Just a Patsy" – 3:11
Sounds like one of the not-so-great slow rock songs from Everything Must Go, 4/10
9. "Imperial Bodybags" – 3:30
very Clash-esque rock song, which means it's good 9/10
10. "Winterlovers" – 3:03
Took me a few listens to "get" this song, but after I got it I realized it's pretty good 7/10
overall- 7.5/10
Despite a few songs that kind of suck, this album has some damn good songs on it and I was pleasantly surprised. It also has a bonus track which is a cover of "Working Class Hero" by John Lennon, good thing it's a bonus track because it sucks pretty hard.
