this is a real discussion. though i don't like them either, i DO NOT want any blind hate here. if you have a reason for disliking them, share it without ranting and getting out of control.

the purpose of this thread is to see other people's opinions and experiences with this growing trend. NOT TO BITCH ABOUT IT, there's enough threads for that already.

It happens with any and all "scenes". What was once subculture is usually bound to become norm-culture. This is why I always stress now identifying one self with any sort of label that puts a false and limited identity to the self or others - that is too simplistic..........enjoy what you do.......believe in what you do......and continue to grow without limitation.

I am a pure scene kid, I can't get enough of bands like; My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy, Panic! At the Disco, Every single band in the NME and Slipknot and Stonesour and my faves, Nickleback...

Nah, honestly, I can't be fucked talking about it, where i'm from, just about every kid is one. Either that or they're so elitist, they just listen to a certain type of music and say everything else is "too mainstream...". People tend to think I'm one of those because I don't listen to the radio or go to these shitty gigs or whatever the fuck, I'd rather listen to music I liked, but anyway... I say let them get on with it like we get on with this, leave it a couple of years, they'll soon forget about it all and take up gambling or clay pidgeon shooting, I know I would. It seems that it takes them longer to mature 'musically', If I hear a nu-metal classic or anything I 'used' to listen to, it still makes me smile:)

i dislike scene kids cause they are fake, the claim they find their identities in emo or whatever, but really they just jump on the band wagon for the next big fad
maybe they can identify themselves as leechs, sucking onto a sub culture that grows in popularity till its old and really stale

What is the point of this thread again?

If you want discussion, you should say something about them.

I'd have to agree. Do you really care that much? Kids have been "scene kids" since the 1950's or even before that. People express themselves in a bunch of different ways. So what if they are posuers, or not devoted to whatever scene as much as you. Ignore 'em and do your own thing. In the words of James Brown "I got mine...don't worry about his..."

dont hate them because they are lost souls or what ever, cut to the chase and hate them cos they're stupid, (and we were all like that once). They are the zombie fied souls of mtv and big label vision of what rock is, it's been happening since nirvana. After Nirvana record labels realised their is a huge effing pay off in the disgrutled teen market (something they never paid too much attention too before)if they build a scene to make it look cool, first they wanted to ween the kids of the angry stuff so they helped build another scene, a big and bright hollywood style scene where everything is wonderfull, and gave us all marketable punk in the form of green day and the offspring, which in turn spewed up some half decent bads and raised the awareness of some awesome bands. then it was the turn of nu-metal, which in my opinion was full of novelties and idiots that made rock look like sand. and now its the turn of the emo kid, the angry new romantic (shut up and grow some balls), think back a few years and remember how the world was caught up in this new coffee culture because the tv said that thats how life really is, friends was a huge brain wash culture and the same shit is happening to these little boys and girls who have been looking up to the tv for guidance because tv is the only glimpse they have of a world beyond their coutch. Why is it that every time an Emo / 'Scene Kids' thread falls off the front page, someone feels the need to start another one and re-hash the same tired discussion all over again?

Oh, but apparently this isn't 'just another emo hate thread' - it's a kinder, gentler emo hate thread.

Why do some people feel so threatened by so-called 'scene kids' that they have to keep bringing these things up? Perhaps it's like how homophobes are often closeted gays - maybe these threads are started by people who fear that they may secretly be 'poseurs'.

I'm not even sure what scene is anymore, not that I really ever did. I thought a scene was something that went on in a certain town or coastline or city or something of that sort. Like the UK Punk Scene, or the New York Scene of the 70's, or the Chicago Blues Scene of yeasterday.

It's puzzling to me how the word scene has been extended to every teenage fad over the last six or seven years.

And as far as emo goes, I wasn't even familiar with the My Chemical Romance brand untill my freshman year of highschool five years ago. And all this reminds me of the way that glam became mainstremed by the LA Metal scene back in the 80's.

It will be interesting to see those crappy VH1 Specials in tweenty years....

"I Love the 2000's.. The Emo Years."

It will be more pointless babbling by crappy comideans making cheap wrist cutting jokes.

I think your on the right page.

Good news: the scene is growing, the RIAA companies are failing, records sales among big labels are at an all time low. The internet is allowing people to talk among themselves, as a community again, instead of receiving culture as whatever a man behind a desk and out of touch deems it is.

Don't hate punk rockers because they are lost souls or whatever... Cut to the chase and hate them because they're stupid (and we were all like that once). They are zombified souls of a trend in music, it's been happening since The Clash.

After The Clash's self-titled album, labels realized that there is a huge fucking pay-off in the disgruntled teen market (something they never paid too much attention to before) - if they built a scene and make it look cool, the kids will come! First they wanted to ween the kids off of the angry stuff so they helped build another scene, a big and bright Hollywood style scene where everything is wonderful, and they gave us marketable bands in the form of New Wave. That, in turn, spewed some half-decent bands...

Oh, fuck it, I can't continue this nonsense... Maybe you'll get the point.

And now that I really thought about it, I think these replies are about something deeper. There is this juvinile behavior in any society that involves the kids who think that they are in a somehow select group to revolt against anything that seems to oppose them. This isn't new, but it's interesting to see how it adapts to each generation, notice the older members don't post any "emo threads". And the older crowds response to these threads is generally one of disaproval while many of the "kids" have some whitless imput such as "I fucking hate emo, etc".

yeah, the older members probably never hated a specific group when they were in mid to late teens, its just the internet! look at what its done!

emo has managed to make rock look completely fucking silly, the only jewel punk could put on it has been taken away by whiney teenagers with silly hair!

oh shit

and for the record theyre called scene kids because they jump scenes, taking all the life and originality out of one and jumping to the next, making each scene have commercial success, ruining them one by one

Good job, you completley fucking missed the entire point of what I said. The older people don't care much for this emo bashing because it's petty and bashing emo doesn't make you any better than it, it actually makes you petty just for partaking in it! Did they do the same when they were kids, probably, I never said they didn't.

Also punk is as silly as fuck, it's ALL fucking silly. But it's fun, if anybody tries to tell you a mohawk or saftey pins aren't funny then they're full of shit and don't know what they're talking about. Have your fun, but don't attack others because they look more ridiculous than you.

And finally I stand by what I said, a scene is a classification of what is happening in a particular place or genre, just because a group has been tagged as "scene" that doesn't mean that the original meaning of the word changes!

I have this saying, "Mohawks go on Indians, NOT punks!"

Haha, but I'm not serious, it is all a bunch of fun. And the only reason I pay no attention to the people lableing themselves as "scene" or "emo" is because they don't know what they're talking about. They'll move onto whatever comes next.

That's my point though, why hate it, it'll go away on it's own. I can't wait to see the day when emo kids sit around going, "god, why where those weird kids calling themselves emo back in the 2000's?"

its funny, i only really pay attention to people when theyve made it blatently obvious that they dont have a clue what theyre talking about, i used to try and educate them, now i just swear at them

theyre just ignorant, and funnily enough i bet they say ignorant all the time, being ignorant to what it really means

have you ever heard someone use ignorant in the sense of 'theyre ignoring me'? theyre blatently not the same fucking word

god, i wish they had all their education tax spent on me, cos im pretty sure i end up having to point out these stupid things every day to them

all the other threads were started about EMOS, not scene kids. i just wanted to hear what other people think.

i think the description "scene kid" started it the 90's hardcore punk scene, when some kids only went to "look cool" and meet people, instead of going for the music. i agree with this because it's what i've seen for the most part.

i dont really worry about this that much to be honest. they dont really bother me, i have alot of friends that are modern day scene kids most of them are cool as shit. the term scene got changed due to the recent fad of post emo, new hardcore, new metal core, grindcore ect. a scenester used to be a person who hung out alot at underground shows and was involved in the music scene. i guess im a scene kid.

p.s. i said post emo because of bands like- rites of spring, fugazi, and jawbreaker who did it well in the birth of emo.

i feel uncomftorbale with the fact that i'm lumped in the same category as something that is that contradictary to what i believe in. i could give a shit less if they didn't drag "punk" into the whole mess.

i've only ever heard them claim that they either are punk, or that punk died in the 70's. once in a while you'll get the skid though who knows a few 80's hardcore bands, usually minor threat, bad brains, or the cro-mags.(this happens roughly about 1%-3% of the time)

I went to Warped Tour and Bamboozle this year (keep in mind I did not pay for my tickets) with a young friend of mine who is scene/emo/or whatever they're called. Besides almost killing myself because the shitty music was sucking the life out of me, I remember thinking that it was sad to look around and see all the kids. They were either disenfranchised youth that were looking for a place to fit in or they were yuppie rich kids who wanted to act like they were disenfranchised youth. All the while, you could see the corporate influence lurking at every turn.

I think this really says more about the deep and profound meaning you have attached to these memories.

And by that I of course mean that they must be neither deep nor profound for you to feel as if they've been cheapened by kids who dress differently and like different music using the same venue.

the memories have been painted over with a grey boring exterior and now all the posters in the building are of bands that i can't stand. At one point i was supposed to design a mural for one of the walls in the building but once the place went under new management it all changed. He's right. the place might as well have burned down. At least that demise would have been more entertaining.

who are you to say that my memories arent important to me.

Somebody who understands that everywhere else except in the punk rock bubble emo kids don't cheapen anything. Once you make it out to the real world there will be all sorts of people you don't like hanging out at places you do like. It's not like these kids tore down the venue. You just don't like that they're going there and having fun on their own terms, as if you and your friends are the only people who should be allowed to do that. So either they aren't important memories, or you're really fucking shallow.

No, you're being dramatic. You hate a bunch of people you don't know because they hang out at a place you used to hang out. Instead of going there and trying to hang out with them, thus living the continuing dream (you could bring your friends), you whine about them.

Not were i live, there's a place called plano center and all the scene bands play there, the scene kids go but instead of paying to get in and support thier local music, the stand around in the damn courtyard or in the halls because all they care about is meeting people to flirt with, at least thats true for the ones around here

Aren't ALL kids in 'scenes' of one sort or another. Then most grow up and start working for the man, paying bills, breeding, etc.

I'd like to be around long enough to see how many of the current 'scene' kids are still doing it when they're 30 or so.

It's a fact of life. All teens rebel. Only some realise what they're actually rebelling AGAINST and do anything positive about it once the real bills start coming in.

And the REALLY hard core will die anyway.

Sorry kids. You're doomed.

This new scene, no matter how disliked it is, is an organic switchover. In the 70's we had stripped down rock n' roll. In the 80s we had the over-the-top glam. In the 90s we had grunge and the start of the underground emo scene. This generation is going back to the "image" and the theatrical approach that their parents or older siblings thrived in. The hair is big, the make-up is caked on, and spandex is essential. And all teenagers rebel in some form; in this generation some do it by exploring their sexuality, and some do it by screaming vocals as opposed to melodic vocals. The scene kids have found a way to derive their attitude from the past and rebel against the past at the same time. I don't consider the scene kids "emo".

She started to feel bad for yelling at me and told me to not worry about it and to go in the kitchen. Once I got down there she told the other moms what I was trying to do and I was given a plate of donuts and a hot chocolate while all the other kids had to go outside and eat Cherrios.

No, it's not. It's really only 2718 miles.

I think I'm gonna write a book about getting pregnant for kids...Lots of pictures, diagrams, etc. That should do the trick.
Picture books are the way to go. Kids understand pictures.

About 42 hours of driving. Yeesh. A plane would probably be cheaper and much faster.

I understand pictures as well. My book would help so many kids and adults. Plus I would discourage the use of birth control methods. They only stay in the way of getting pregnant.

If you've got the right car, you can cut a lot of that off but driving really fast through the desert parts in the west.

I'll just wait until I can afford a BMW M6 and then make the trip. I'd be there in like 2 seconds. I'd have to steal gas and all that, just like Max. He probably didn't consider it stealing though.

Only two of my closed friends that are girls are even remotely close friends with other girls, and that's with each-other. Every other girl is just someone they talk to when they're around. Thanks to my Irish Catholic heritage, I get a free pass when it comes to making fun of the old man in a bath robe.

I get a free pass no matter what, because it's me, and almost nothing is sacred to me - nothing is beyond being mocked.

But if Catholics threaten to kill me over it, I can hand them "The Holy Bible" I got at Confirmation... If I haven't burned it. I burned one Bible I had, but I can't remember if it was that one.

I'm not fighting with you Jon, you're just being your usual sarcastic self, and I'm making nonsense of it, as usual.

Kendra Jon is harmless, he just comes off as mean spirited, he's really not all that bad.

He just reminded me of something that really stresses me out.

Haha yeah! It's my fault for letting myself get upset. Although I think it was a good thing because I've gotten a lot of anger out...even though I've pissed off a few people, I feel better :)
