.... has consisted of bananas, hot pockets, and lettuce.

Has anyone had a weird diet due to being broke. if so what was/is it?

Ramen, ramen, ramen, ramen, ramen, ramen, ramen, and what's more - more ramen.

If you want a good low budget alternative to nasty-ass, horrible for you "hot pockets," try Mrs. T's Cheddar and Potato Pierogies - boil in water for 5 minutes or fry 'em up in a pan. The other great equalizer is spaghetti: lots 'o food for cheap.
Paul Newman Sauce - proceeds go to charity.

After burning out years ago, I'd rather eat my shoes than ramen.

Using Ramen as a substitute for rice, it's good, like with chicken, steamed vegetables and terriyaki sauce. mmmm...

my broke meals throughout my life have been cereal and eggs with rice (scrambled or sunny side/over easy)

When I was really broke, it was always pasta. At least 4 times a week. I eventually grew to hate pasta - I called it 'failure food'. Once I had enough money again, I would refuse to have it anymore - which sucks for my girlfriend because she's italian and loves the stuff.

Now, thanks to the 99 cent store, chicken nuggets and fries are usually the default 'I have no cash' dinner - about $1.50 for 2 people. Yum.

Ramen is a wheat based noodle. So unless you purchase roast ox flavored ramen, or you accidentally purchase "ramen" style beef entrails, I think you will be fine.

I think she means the meat flavoring packets, which do contain meat.

Roast Ox Flavored Ramen

For some reason Ox just doesn't sound like an appetizing meat. Maybe because I just keep picturing Babe the big blue Ox

It's funny because I was just laughing at a post another thread just the other day about how surprised someone was that they were vegetarian and found out that ramen contained meat. What, with flavors like 'beef' and 'chicken', they contain meat?

theyre all vegetarian if you dont use the flavor packet, but they do make a mushroom flavor one that has no meat.

The only problem with ramen is that the flavour packet has like 1200 mg of sodium....enough to preserve a body for years...lol Peanut butter is always a good source of cheap protein.....

oh hell no! those are gross!and more expensive than the brick ramen noodle packages that give you the option of using the bullion packet.

Luckily I work in the food service industry and both of my jobs inculde a staff meal, so even when I'm broke I still eat fairly well. Hell, even when I'm not broke I don't even bother to buy groceries most of the time.

i'm also a vegetarian. i'm pretty sure they don't make any vegetarian in the cups. but oriental in the packets is what i eat. it's the only veggie friendly kind.
