Absolute fucking rubbish. I don't understand how the people of Arizona are standing for this!

In Arizona, women are now legally pregnant two weeks before conception, according to a new law, the Orwellianly-named, “Women’s Health and Safety Act,” signed yesterday by Republican Governor Jan Brewer. The scientifically, medically, ethically, and intellectually dishonest legislation is designed to reduce the amount of time a woman is allowed to have a legal abortion, and is one of the most draconian bills to become law in America.
The bill was sponsored by extremist Arizona State Rep. Kimberly Yee
She said the law defines pregnancy in a way that bans abortion two weeks before the other seven states with similar laws, because it calculates gestational age starting with the first day of the last menstrual period rather than the date of conception.
During the hearings on the bill, doctors said many women don’t discover their fetus has a severe or life-threatening problem until an ultrasound at about the 20th week. The doctors — and several women who had faced this issue — testified that this law would arbitrarily cut off the right for these women to have an abortion.
“My heart goes out to the families that will be impacted,” Steinberg said. “Women are being forced to carry children that they know will end up dying within hours of birth.”
…
The bill signed into law Thursday makes other changes to abortion regulations, including the requirement of an ultrasound 24 hours before the procedure. The law becomes effective 90 days after the Legislature ends its session, which is likely to occur later this month.
Current law allows abortions up until the point of viability, when a fetus could reasonably survive on its own outside the womb. That’s considered by many medical experts and abortion clinics to be from 22 to 24 weeks. Current law also allows abortions beyond that to protect the “life or health of the woman” but doesn’t define health.

Yeah, my brother lives there. And...yeah. Bless his heart. : /
What this is saying, actually, is that pregnancy begins at fertilization. I believe that the only people who think this just don't understand how a womans body works.
Sperm+egg happens all the time. We women never even know it. Sperm reaches one of our eggs and fertilizes it and then just never implants. We are totally unaware except for perhaps a heavier cycle that month. If that. We expel fertilized eggs at a much greater percentage than we conceive. It just happens that way. Our bodies don't change until implantation happens. No pregnancy hormones, nothing.
These people are just trying to cut down the time a woman has to make a choice.
I respect most points of view. I don't believe in abortion as birth control. But, there are times when a woman has to make a tough decision. The products of incest for one. If you have a strong stomach, look up miracle babies on youtube. This law would force a woman to give birth to these poor creatures and then who will take care of them? Yeah, you guessed it.

...as does my father. I stand by my original statement.

I'm sure they do, they just don't care. Facts are just inconvenient roadblocks to their idealogical agenda. In their eyes, women are just property. They need to be told what to do. Like dogs, for instance.

So, there's no storks involved anywhere in the process?

And I agree with you. I don't know what I would think if faced with the abortion question, but I don't believe the choice should be made by someone who doesn't have to deal with the consequences - morally, emotionally, or financially. And the flip side of all these mothers who can't take care of their children is that they also want to take away funding for the state to take care of them. So apparently surviving a miracle birth just to die from lack of care is fine with them. Idiots.

This shit is unbelievable. I agree that abortion shouldn't be used as birth control, but you should have the right to choose to get one. There are so many circumstances where abortion is justified, such as rape, incest, medical problems for the woman or child, etc. This world is so over populated and so many children are born who don't have basic needs met, no food, water, clothes, a place to live. So many are in group homes, orphanages and foster homes. These children born to mothers and fathers who don't care about them, abuse them physically, sexually, mentally and emotionally, don't provide a safe environment with food and warmth. These kids also don't get something that is necessary for humans to thrive - LOVE. They get no love, attention, guidance, support. Then they go out, fuck and get pregnant again!!!! If you don't want to raise your child, adoption is a good thing, but there are already SO MANY kids that need homes. Most people only want babies, so the rest grow up in homes, being sent to different places and people, being abused, etc. Then, when they turn 18, bam, they're out on the streets, with no idea about what to do to make their life better. There are barely any resources out there to help them. Then they do what humans do, which is fuck, and end up pregnant. The cycle starts all over.
Sorry about that rant, I know I went off topic. I truly believe in abortion and have always supported the cause. This new law will make things much harder for women, who are already making a decision that is almost impossible in a lot of cases. I have a nine month old son who has changed my life completely and I wouldn't trade him for anything in this world, but everyone isn't like me. I was shooting up heroin 6-7 times a day before I got pregnant, but I haven't touched a needle since then. My son saved my life.

The same morons were still burning women in plublic place for being witches when they still could go away with it back in the 18th century.
I guess world's education and mediatisation has some good aspects...

And yet ANOTHER reason to not step foot in that state. It's a shame too considering some great bands come from there, and I want to meet and party with David joseph one day, even though he hasn't been on here much lately. But I AM boycotting most Arizona Products, and I refuse to step foot, let alone play there. Jan Brewer is a sick, twisted, nutcase, but I'm just stating what everybody already knows!

Good plan, because if you went there 2 weeks from now, you might already be on the hook for child support & not even know it.

it' s supposed that you get pregnant for 40 weeks... and your body starts preparing 2 weeks before conception (That is the level of progesterone, estrogen goes up etc etc preparing for implantation)... i think i get why they' re saying 2 weeks before.... after ovulation you realize that you' re pregnant b/c of the lack of your period... if you go to the doctor, they probably say that you have 2 weeks pregnant, but actually you have 4... so you have to count 38 weeks since your first lack of menstruation....
but i think is bullshit to not let any women do what they want to do... stupid laws.

The levels of progesterone and estrogen go up monthly no matter what, though. It has nothing to do with fertilization.
And yes, the law is very stupid :)

Progesterone and getting pregnant
An adequate amount of progesterone is crucial to a woman who is trying to become pregnant. That is because, it actually prepares the uterine wall for implantation of the fertilized egg....
Yeah, it has nothing to do with "fertilization" but for implantation... hmmm is difficult to explain this in a LAW way...

I feel ashamed for so many people even though I didn't do anything.. or maybe the problem is that I didn't; is there is anything we can actually DO? This is depressing.

Also, Arizona has banned all ethnic-studies programs that cater to Latin American students.
I'm convinced that Arizona and Florida have the strangest senators, and state reps that make bat shit crazy laws. And the part that pisses a lot of people off is that these laws pass!
