I don't care if it doesn't matter. When I feel passionate about something and I'm allowed even a tiny speck to voice it, it just feels good. Once I submitted that ballot a shit eating grin appeared on my face I can't wipe off. This may sound terrible but I wish I could vote every day!

Got me a pimpin sticker too!

I get the same rush when I write my congresswoman.

Can't tell if you're being serious... Samuel Clements said, when asked why he didn't vote, "It only encourages them". If you are serious, -what ever gets ya' there... pimpin and votin are close to the same thing

What is it they say ' "vote early and vote often..."

Voting is mandatory in Australia. If you don't vote in the elections and you get caught - you get fined.

I would feel so degraded if they had mandatory voting here.

I'm not sure why they do ... but as far as I know that's always been the case. It's often explained that if voting isn't compulsory you just get the lunatic fringe from both the right and the left who vote ... as nobody else would probably bother....

That's probably a fairly accurate summation of most Australians - who are pretty complacent and not political. There is also a huge amount of cynicism re politicians here. Most of them are pretty well despised!

Well you can keep Mel Gibson. However I like AC/DC....early AC/DC that is ... with Bon Scott...

(over 18, not registered, and loving it) My parents aren't registered either, for a point of reference.

They have automatic registration here, but I don't vote. The only party that I would consider voting for doesn't run outside of Quebec, and even their, their Nationalist tendencies would probably deter from voting for them in the end. It's not that I'm apathetic, just so much as all the choices blow. I already know that no matter what I'll be disappointed with the outcome, so my voting would just encourage somebody who I don't like, to do things that I'm not happy with.

I called 5 different representatives and Senators last week about a change in the state budget that would affect me not getting a 2% raise in October. I was surprised and a little excited that one of the Senator's offices actually called me back to say that she did vote to keep the raise in the budget and would continue to fight for it. Even if it was just an assistant calling, it's kind of cool when you hear that someone actually listened to what you had to say.
