seriously though, brett gurewitz. fat mike runs a pretty ethical music label, despite it's sharing with epitaph a cultural monopoly, but epitaph just sucks balls. bad religion kind of sucks anyway, despite the awesomeness of their first album.

what the crap is up with leftover crack? seriously. don't they sing about squatting and smoking crack but they drive a $250,000 tour bus and make $5,000+ a show? are their fans just blind or just done so many drugs that they are brain dead?
i was planning on going to see cock sparrer for a 3rd time but having to sit in a room with leftover crack fans while waiting for cock sparrer to play doesn't seem worth it.

250K? really? you sure about that? Well, if that is the case, that seems like a great way to travel. Way better than some crappy van. 5k per show? good for them.
Not sure what is wrong with making money???

there's nothing wrong with working hard and getting to the top. on average big RV's like what they drive range around 1/4 million. $5,000 is about how much they want for a guarantee for a show in SLC.... rancid wants about $10,000, so again it's not that much.
it's just the fact that they sing about squatting, being homeless, but they clearly aren't. leftover crack is like the new Sublime. it's a trendy band for jocks and hipsters.
i prefer supporting bands that sing about what they actually do and believe in, from the time they started to the present. like The Casualties, they still spike their hair and get drunk, tour constantly and have remained true. even if the Casualties drove a 1/4 million $ RV and was making $5,000 a show it's a different case, they don't say they are squatters.

eh, I would not take what any band sings about to heart or personally. They can do whatever the fuck they want. Making 5k a show is dog shit..... Unless they play 85 to 100 shows a year.... do they play that many?
Also, I bet they do not always get that much per show. I see they open for bands

There's a lot of us that would be happy to walk away with a grand per show. 5 grand a show would be a nice living even if it is considered chump change to some. Especially to play 1 night a week. I'd give my left nut to make that on our shows. Right now we're lucky if we break even. We've even had some assholes stiff us and give our money to the headliner even though we brought in more people.

it's actually not that much if you consider a bands fan base and how much they charge for a show. last time i saw adicts play house of blues anahiem sept. 2010 i paid $28 for a ticket and it was sold out with over 1,000 people. $25.00 x 1,000 = $25,000. i'm sure HOB took a chunk but Adicts make tons of money and they deserve it. every band ask's for different guarantee's in different city's. the adicts played in SLC in 2006 and got a $3,000 guarantee and they couldn't find a club to give them that much on this upcoming tour so they skipped SLC. Rancid ask's for $10,000 in SLC..... i can't even imagine how much they make off of 1 show in california

You also have to remember that of that $28 ticket, part of that was fees going to Tickemaster, and a cut of that went to HOB (which, ironically, are both owned by the same company - LiveNation). What's left goes to the bands.
Of the money for the bands, I'm sure there were more than one on the bill. The Adicts obviously got the bulk of it as the headliner, but the opening acts all get a piece too. Then, of the piece that the Adicts get, deduct travel expenses (lots of people and equipment cost a lot of money to move around, not to mention lodging), and the staff is more than just the guys you see on stage - roadies, guitar techs, etc, all need to get paid. So of that $28 ticket, each band member makes a tiny fraction. Still, not bad money for doing something that you love, but not the cash cow that the ticket price implies.
Smaller bands can work with much less overhead - fewer people, cheaper travel, venues that don't double-skim off the top. The bigger you get, the bigger your expenses, and the larger the venues and financial guarantees needed to cover them and still make good money.

ya agreed. but still just saying.... leftover crack is obviously a bunch of fakes and their fans are dumb and blind to the fact that they are making thousands of dollars playing shows but they talk about squatting... which is obviously a lie. i don't see how anyone can support a band like that and call themselves punk. i thought punks were supposed to be a cut above the norm and think things thru a bit more. leftover crack and cock sparrer playing on the same day ruins the PRB fest for me and is the reason why i won't be there.

you're a fucking good comedian, you know that?
Did you at least do some research before saying shit about a band? All the band members have squatted before and still do it from time to time, it's not as if they lived in a suburban house and then started to talk about squatting.
And compared to say, Casualties, which simply plays same old crappy street punk over and over again, Leftover Crack has incorporated many musical styles into their songs, so in my opinion it makes them much more innovative than Casualties, much more relevant and more important for punk music than the Casualties will ever be.
Then again, punk rock is all about what who thinks is punk or not. I'm sure justin bieber would agree with you more.

that doesn't make sense to be squatting after being in many established bands that play lots of shows, have bigger record labels and sell so much merch and records. sleeping over at a friends house after a party isn't squatting. i doubt each member was born on the streets and was homeless when they were young. they all grew up in suburban new york/LA homes and went to elementry-high school. brad logan the guitarist grew up in LA and i highly doubt he's ever squated or their drummer ara (look up their biography's on wikipedia) do your research before you talk crap.
all that leftover crack did was find a subject to sing about that they thought could make them money and profited off of weak minded individuals. compared to the Casualties who with each album have added more and more to their music... doing an album in spanish, adding reggae. still The Casualties are a more well known band worldwide, have been around for longer, tour more, release more albums, stick true to lyrics they wrote 20 plus years ago and influence younger generations into punk rock more then some fake homeless band ever will.

For as much as I dislike LoC, well I straight up hate The Casualties, and must agree with what you said here (though I think Leftover Crack were only innovative in the sense that they spawned a shitty, annoying trend). I do think Leftover Crack are fake as hell (yeah, they squatted in the past, but now they're just exploiting that image for $$$), but The Casualties are even more fake then Leftover Crack. The Casualties are fucking cartoon Punks, they're just playing up this whole "UP THE PUNX" image to make more and more money and seem "rebellious". The Casualties are really bad for Punk as a whole too, they're exactly what the mainstream media needs to write off all Punks as mindless, glue huffing idiots who just wanna cause chaos, even when subcultures like the underground Anarcho/Crust one are really the complete opposite of that "Chaos! Up the punx!" crap.

look, of course various band members of LoC weren't born in the streets, were YOU born in the streets and had to go through dumpsters at age 5 just to get something to eat?
But they do have experince in squatting and shoplifting for food, and their songs are based on their own personal politics and not because they wanted to profit off some weak minded individuals, in fact, if you asked me who could be more weak minded, I'd say Cashualties fans since their fans tend to think that they're the punkest band in the world, when all they did was to repeat the same thing GBH and Exploited did in the 80's. LoC at least had inspirational and intelligent lyrics to back up their innovative sound, which incorporates hardcore punk, crust punk, ska, classical music, reggae, hip hop and death metal.
Sure, Casualties did a record in Spanish, but you know something, Los Crudos did that way earlier before they did. In fact, Los Crudos paved the way for future spanish-speaking punk bands and are active participants in the Chicano movement, while all the Casualties did was to re-do a previous album entirely in spanish. Yeah, innovative and influential, for sure.
And speaking of bigger record labels, this is a tie since Casualties is on SideOneDummy while LoC is on Fat Wreck. Unless you think being on Fat Wreck officially makes you a sellout.

If you get hung up about a bands lifestyle compaired to how they actaully live we might as well burn at lest half the records we own. I gave up on this stance years ago, can't listen to The Clash, Pistols or any other '77 London band (they all mostly signed onto majors), Can't listen to old Chumbawamba albums anymore (ok tubthumming still gets me angry but I still like pictures reguardless). Don't listen to Crass Penny owns dial house and Steve is making money as a nostalgia show. I hated all this crap in the 80's and I do now. I like CRS7 bands I like te music and lyrics and I don't care about the rest of the BS. I'm not really into up the punx bands (except a few records I have for nostilgia sake), I would ssay though I'd rather a band's message promoting a worthwhile life style than than one thats just oioioioi and I have heard the Casualties arn't quite as punk as they make out to be and more than one story that they are a bunch of sex pests, yeah give me LoC over that any day
