Actor Heath Ledger is found dead!!!!!

Australian-born actor Heath Ledger, 28, the co-star of the Oscar-winning movie "Brokeback Mountain," was found dead in a New York residence on Tuesday, police said.

"Heath Ledger was found dead at 3:26 pm this afternoon," a police spokesperson said, saying he was found in an apartment in the posh district of Soho. "We don't know the cause of the death."

The entertainment website TMZ said Heath was discovered "face down on the floor" adding that "law enforcement sources ... believe it was not a crime."

The New York Times said Ledger was discovered by the housekeeper and a masseuse who arrived in the afternoon for an appointment.

They knocked on the door, but "when no one answered, the housekeeper and the masseuse opened the bedroom and found Mr. Ledger naked and unconscious on a bed. They shook him, but he did not respond," the Times said.

Both the New York Times and TMZ quoted officials as saying pills were found near the body, but gave no further details.

The film was already in post production. Sad, because he was a decent actor. I hope the new batman will leave him a memorable role. Unlike, Raul Julia last performance in Street Fighter. So sad that was his last film.

One of my best friends committed suicide in high school, and ever since then I've always gotten really pissed off when ever people say it's selfish or cowardly. Unless you know what was going on inside his head, which is more or less impossible, you're in no position to comment.

agreed. peoples ignorance over mental ILLNESS is quite remarkable. id imagine the percentage of people who do kill themselves for genuinly selfish reasons is quite small.

The selfishness of it is quoted time and time again by the professionals charged with KEEPING people from committing suicide. IF you call a suicide hotline, they'll cover it.

I think THEY understand mental illness and suicide more than any of us.

exactly, theyre the depressives equivilent of first-aid. a skill, but not one that really goes into any great depths. i doubt youll find someone involved in medical phsychiatry calling it a selfish act.

its unfair. a lot of these people are sick. them killing themselves isnt entirely in their own control. brandishing them as selfish implies that theyre sound of mind, which simply isnt the case.
sure, some people are prefectly healthy and are just looking for an easy way out. someone facing the prospect of a life sentence offing themselves, thats a selfish act. however, it isnt really comparable to someone suffering from mental illness.

i heard he was taking sleeping tablets and apparently he was having to take 2 just to get an hours sleep. so he might have accidently killed himself. he was apparently really happy cos he has a daughter and stuff.
