Anyone see this thing?
Its self tuning!
I think i'd rather keep it DIY though..

This is only really useful for a live situation where you need to fix a tuning on a time budget. You can just get a tuning pedal that cuts out the sound of the instrument as you tune yourself for about 2449 dollars less. If you play live alot and are going to blow 2500 on a gibson anyways, you might as well get this one. Just be careful with too much technology, especially since stages are known to get wet.

my thought was repair costs...
hell, can you even upgrade the pick-ups or anything?

Should be able to. That knob's only use is to send a signal up the neck of the guitar to turn some pegs. This thing must take batteries and weigh a ton.
It's a Les Paul, you can't get much better pickups.

Man what is going to happen in a couple years when everything breaks on it. Way to much shit to break. However that is cool as fuck

I'd probably avoid a self tuning guitar. I'm a pretty big fan of cheap guitars. I like being able to bash mine around, and if I I was paing upwards of $700-800 for one, I'd probably be afraid to touch it, let alone bash it around. If I won the lotery or something I'd probaby get an expensive on out of not knowing what else to spend my money on, but barring that the hightest end I'd probably go would be an Epihone or a Mexican Fender. Only a tele though. I hate strats.

I almost bought a mexican tele today. I talked the guy at guitar center down to 350 out the door but my wife gave me the look and I walked out empty handed. I really want one though

I had one, but I lost it somehow, and now I really wish I didn't.

if i had the money, i'd probibly buy one, but i don't see the real need for this kind of technology.
i mean the only times i use any alt tunings is on my acoustic, i'll play in open g sometimes, or maybe dmaj7 and it's not much work to tune them up.

Eh--only watched a few seconds of it. I see a digression in musicianship with a guitar like this.

It's just a tuner. Musicianship has nothing to do with turning pegs until a light turns on.

^in terms of never having to learn how to tune on your own it will effect musicianship. It turns the flippin' keys for you.

Its highly unlikely that someone is going to buy a Gibson Les Paul and not know how to tune one (thats a serious axe)
Im sure whoever can afford this is a serious guitar player who will probobly really appreciate its tuning capabilities
(sux for guitar techs) or does it ?
the entonation bit looked like the most handy feature. well, perhaps not the handiest, but its always something that fucks me off.

I am more than a little wary of a guitar with extra electronics like that in it. I would worry about the microprocessors making some funny sound in the background when I have too much distortion going on.
But hey Gibson has been sucking for a while.
