You still gotta give props to the Wu Tang Clan. I just got 8 Diagrams. It reminds me of everything that was good about 36 Chambers and Wu Tang Forever. They're probably also the only people in rap music who can get away with sampling "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." George Harrison's son even played guitar on the track.

I'm with ya buddy...back when Rap was what it is supposed to be...R&B with a Twist, Poetry...nowadays, it's all Clubbin ShitPop - No Heart, No Soul, No Point...

I don't really like R&B in rap music music. I like the grimey gangster shit. I hate all that stupid ring tone rap too.

Hah...I read the title of this thread and thought, "Well the Wu tang Clan kicks ass." I clicked on it, and voila! They were exactly who you were talking about.

Captain_Obvious

myself, I hate sampling...
If you don't have the imagination to think of your own music, or at least the skill to play it, you shouldn't be performing.

thebigother
01-05-2008, 02:58 PM
Sampling well takes skill though.

Captain_Obvious
01-05-2008, 03:11 PM
enough skill that any 15 year old with half a brain and a computer can do it....
just look at the musical abortion that is Techno and House.

thebigother
01-05-2008, 03:26 PM
Techno and House aren't Hip-Hop, and they usually don't sample much either. Hell, "techno" is really just a blanket term that referes to a bunch of different types of music anyway. But hey, if it's so easy why don't you put your money where your mouth is and produce a top selling rap album? Worst case scenario, you just make some whack beats. Best case scenario, you make millions of dollars. Not much to lose.

Captain_Obvious
01-05-2008, 03:32 PM
well, if you weren't paying attention... I don't like rap, electronica, house or what have you...

plus, you couldn't pay me to alter my perception on music, that would make me a sell out.

Captain_Obvious
01-05-2008, 03:36 PM
I see hip-hop, rap or anything that involves someone sampling, as a musical form for people who have rythm, but not enough talent to play an instrument or sing.

But a lot of music that involves sampling (modern R&B) involves singing... So where is your god now, asshat?

Captain_Obvious
01-05-2008, 03:52 PM
ok, maybe not all of it... but a damn good lot of it.

I'm not asking you to alter your perception on music. I'm asking you to prove it's as easy as you say it is. It's not about if you like it or not, I couldn't care less about your tastes in music. It's about if your talking out of your ass or not.

And if you don't like such music, then logically you don't pay much attention to it, which means you have a skewed understanding of it.

Maybe they just aren't interested in learning how to play traditional instruments? And WTF @ punk rockers complaining about a lack of musical ability? What ever happened to the "anybody can make music" mentality?

I think that went down the drain when people figured out that people were making shitty music.
but then raises the question of, what happened to the right to your own opinion?

He was just asking you to remain open minded. You never know. You might find sampling you like or not. It really depends. Nobody has musical taste set in stone.

I'm not challenging your right to your opinion. I'm challenging your statement that making such music is easy, and you have yet to offer up any evidence that you have first hand experience that would confirm that statement. You can dislike techno and rap all you want, but don't start mixing up opinion with fact.

True, but I still have yet to see or hear anything that, in my eyes, is any good..

Im 100% positive Martin Gore is a better guitarist, songwriter,singer,programmer-sampler, piano player & producer than you are, or ever could be.

I am saying the exact same in reguards to Trent Reznor and Al Jourgensen as well.

I think i'll add in Andrew Eldritch in there oh and Glenn Danzig too.. they do all of the aforementioned in the studio.

Dont dis-credit bands that use electronics/sampling, most are a hell of alot more talented than you can imagine.

I think a lot of people didn't get the title of this thread, which it "I don't care if you don't like Rap".

Using my keen powers of intellect, deduction, and logic, I have reached the conclusion that the title of this thread was specifically meant to suggest that people shouldn't come to this thread posting "I hate rap" or "rap sucks" (or anything of the sort). And why is that? because Zach really doesn't care about whether or not you like it. In fact, I think he probably cares more about George W. Bush's health and well-being than any of you not you liking rap.

Congrats, you negatively generalized an entire genre based on what some members of it do.

Hey, why not just say "Black people rob banks, as far as I'm concerned"?

I wouldn't say so...
What about the Sugar Hill Gang, Beastie Boys, Run-DMC or Grandmaster Flash?

I may hate the sampling but there's always exceptions.

I was into rap when it was underground. This shit with thug rap being the dominant pop music just sucks. Its now cool to be a brutal asshole.
Anyone who raps about something besides drugs, bitches and parties that dont stop until 6 in the morning is thrown out of the hiphop party for being "conscious".
Yeah I am bitter, I used to sound engineer for some hip hop guys.

I don't normally listen to rap myself. But I was at my brother's house today and his girlfriend happens to be a Wu-Tang fan... I listened to 8 Diagrams while I helped him set up his new BBQ grill. I thought the tracks "Take It Back" and "Weak Spot" were kinda dope....I also dig that song that's got George Clinton on it, can't remember the name.
