i don't know what kind of liquid cleaning agents with chlorine you can buy over the pond, but that is what you need. it must be a cleaning agent with not to much chlorine in it, but enough to bleach a bit (or it looks like batik). don't put acid in the washer, if you have bad luck it could fuck the washer! it works good to sprinkle it over the cloth with a fine duster (or it looks like batik...) and then let it work a bit and wash it out WITH A LOT OF WATER in a bathtub. use gloves open the window (always use a mask when you use a duster/vaporizer with chlorine), if you inhale it without you'll know what i mean... and: it could be very unhealthy to mix chlorine with washing powder or other cleaning agents.

yeah making mustard gas by accident is sooo not a good idea
how about using something like the tie dyeing process to get the dark bit and light bits and just stick the cloths in bleachy water?

i done it in some differnt ways in the nineties, but now you can't get the fuckin chlorine cleaner i always used anymore in germany. a vaporizer and it looks more regular al over acid washed, tie the cloth ore dump it direct on it looks more diy.

I had to go find out what acid wash was. Ok. I did this years ago and I used Bleach. Simple as that. You'll need a pair of rubber gloves and a bottle of bleach, strong bleach, not hair bleach, household bleach, the kind thats guaranteed to kill all life forms that come in contact with it. No weak cheap stuff. You can tie die but you'll end up with some weird skinhead hippie combo. I did mine by screwing the jeans up, dropping them into the bath and pouring trails of bleach on them. You will see the blue dye bleach out before your eyes. When it goes white (or really light) start running the water to stop the bleach completely rotting the jeans. After a good rinse, Pull plug hold jeans up and admire handy work. If there are areas that you ain't happy with repeat the process (don't worry if the jeans are a tad wet just wring em out a bit). Pour more bleach over the bits you missed first time. Just experiment on something old and you'll figure out your own technique easy peasy.
When you are finsihed give the jeans a really good long soak in the bath, because bleach keeps on working until it's been diluted down enough to be non effective. After soaking. Put them in the washing machine and give em a real good washing, this is mainly to get rid of the stink. And boy will they stink.
Do not put acid or bleach in your washing machine unless you really want all the rubber seals to rot and leak.

My friend Randy did exactly this, but he used an old house painting brush to apply the bleach. They turned out really cool. :)

when i bleached jeans i put them on the ground and pored the bleach on the back then turned them over and pored bleach on the front then before all the blue is gone (the slight blue stops the bleached white area from going yellow)
hose then down and chuck em in the washing machine with no detergent to get the bleach out.
Im gonna do some on the weekend now i think of it.

I listen to Joe the Boss as it happens. I just think Bleachers, Acid Wash etc look messy as fuck. I'd choose a pair of Sta-Prest over bleached jeans any day.

Yeah. I'd rather choose a pair of smart trousers that serve a purpose than wear tight trousers that have messy zips on them that don't do anything but hey, everyone's different. ;)

I've seen it work a couple of times but it looks horrible in my opinion... It's kinda tricky... Results are always different depending on bleach, water/bleach ratio and brand of jeans. Better off sticking with normal jeans for all the fuss.
