Last night on VH1 classic was an episode of the seven part series called the Seven Ages of Rock. The episode was titled the Blank Generation: Punk Rock.

My minor attempt at getting Mom and Pops to see that the majority of punk rock isn't all that bad got dashed to shit.

There were LOTS of great bands back then. but what did they do?
They spent 75% of the hour talking about who else but the Sex Pistols and the Ramones. Frankly I was bored and disgusted....what a waste of film and time.

^Personally I agree though man, there needs to be a documentary that expands on the 77' scene. The Don Letts punk rock movie does a better job,but I want more! There were so many punk bands that popped up in that time period, especially in England.

Basically spoon feeding people saying that was the embodyment of the punk rock genre. try putting up with 30-45 minutes of that shit... what really pissed me off, they COMPLETELY ignored the L.A. scene. not one mention of it.

The other episodes of this show were pretty disappointing. The "art rock" one was called "White Light, White Heat", and they spent about 10 minutes on The Velvet Underground, and mostly talked about Pink Floyd. YAWN!

Well I started watching it late, didn't see Johnny Thunders, or any of the Dolls for that matter, and I didn't hear the Stooges or MC5 mentioned once, maybe I missed it but I doubt it. Look the Sex Pistols and Ramones were great, but they weren't the only ones! We all know that, and we know where the genre started and who helped make it special. The Ramones and Pistols were just two of many great bands.

But honestly did any of us expect that show to be any different than from what it was?

No. But since nearly every other television stations runs a constant stream of programming in which white people are depicted as affluent members of the middle class living in picturesque suburbs working medium to high profile jobs, I don't find it offensive either. White people need to stop being such babies. If you really don't like it, you can turn it off. And while you're not watching television you can take a few moments to ponder why black entertainment depicts white people this way, and what can be done to remedy the situation.

So I'll try to bring this back on topic;), Some one ask was there another History of Rock that was far better. Well yes PBS did a History of Rock-N-Roll a few years back they did a two part on Punk and it was actually done rather well. They broke it up into two parts the Early stiff hitting on MC5/The Stooges/Doll thru the early 80s and then the second part dealt with the mid 80s up to Nirvana. I found it well done. As fir the rest of the show it was real good it covered everything from the early Blues and Country influance on rock all the way up to the Rap/Rock cross over stuff.

This is by far the most ignorant post on punkrockers.com. And that's saying something. People like you are the reason why racism will always be a problem in North America. So oblivious to your privilege that you actually feel persecuted. Talk to me when you're barred from eating in the same restaurant as black people, or when it takes the national guard for white kids to be allowed to go to black schools, or when flawed school funding formulas start to favor predominantly black schools, or when celebrities and politicians are disproportional black, and when black people start propagating en mass that white people are genetically and morally inferior. The reality of the situation is that black people and other minorities were forcibly oppressed for hundreds of years, and there is no quick fix. You might not be responsible for Jim Crow laws or the slave trade, but we all have to deal with the consequences. So you're comparing what happened in the 1800s to the Irish in America and you're trying to compare that to what people have suffer from 1600s - present in America? Come on now. It was for the most part well worth the two weeks that it ran. I think Ken Burns help out on some of it and we all know any of the Documentry's that he has done have been real good.

Last night on VH1 classic was an episode of the seven part series called the Seven Ages of Rock. The episode was titled the Blank Generation: Punk Rock.

My minor attempt at getting Mom and Pops to see that the majority of punk rock isn't all that bad got dashed to shit.

There were LOTS of great bands back then. but what did they do?
They spent 75% of the hour talking about who else but the Sex Pistols and the Ramones. Frankly I was bored and disgusted....what a waste of film and time.

I think this one is direct at me the name of the Show was called Rock-N-Roll the Complete History if you do a search on PBS website it should still come up. It was for the most part well worth the two weeks that it ran. I think Ken Burns help out on some of it and we all know any of the Documentry's that he has done have been real good.

It's not absurd. It changed the world by spreading out the gene pool, the introduction of new technology, advances in war logistics, and the spread of modern(at the time)government policy and religious practices.
