Now. The time of truth. I've tried to encompass a wide variety of current popular music. I omitted non-band related music because I want acts that have most likely popped up on shows you've attended.
Call me curious.
And no, you can't pick more than one

I've got a blog up about this (which I had a lot of fun writing...so cathartic!) but here's just the list of my top ten most hated genres.
1. Britney Simpson/Jessica Spears and other allied clones
2. Gangsta rap and booty girls
3. Australian rap
4. Boy bands
5. Anything "Idol"
6. Folk Music
7. Divas: Celine, Whitney et. al.
8. Andrew Lloyd Webber
9. Modern R'n'B
10. Christian Rock
Honourable mentions to Country (which I was able to vote for - thank you!) mariachi music, German Oom-pa pa and marching music and anything which contains the expressions "Take your partners" or "do-si-do"

Absolutely agree on that last point. It's an insult to the originators of those genres to use the name for the pallid, limp-wristed sounds around today.

"metal sucks" = 35,100 + 4,780("nu-metal sucks")

Propagandhi didn't write that song, and you need to find a hobby. I don't know who originally sang that song, you got me there(against all authority and LTJ covered it maybe they wrote it? I know the bridge is from The Specials song that Sublime also sampled), but they sold 220,000 copies of How To Clean Everything in the US and Canada and 145,000 in Europe. That counts as a sizable "dent".

Looking closer this poll needs to be done over. I do not consider country or ska to have any rock in it at all. Any ska band that might be mistaken for rock is a hybrid thus is not traditionally ska.

I actually wouldn't mind Avril Lavigne so much if she hadn't called herself the "Sid Vicious of a new generation." She acts like she has all this shock value, but listening to her music and then, say, Lindsay Lohan or Britney Spears, I can hardly tell the difference. But, that's really my only qualm with her. Oh, and that song where she yodels.

The band was pre-fabricated because Lydon wanted to be heard. He wanted the world to hear and feel his resentment. Especially in that day and age they would have never been heard unless they fabricated everything to get where they wanted. All those guys came close to losing thier lives numerous times by wacko's and loyalists. If they weren't into what they were doing then they wouldn't have done it at all. Sex Pistols aren't my favorite band, but they get my respect.
ChrisJones

The sex pistols weren't bad musicians(except for sid) and their live show was pretty good. I respect johnny as a person and musician. His autobiography "no irish, no blacks, no dogs" is quite an entertaining read while giving insight into his frustrations with the vanity of punk rock.
Sid(who was freakin 6'5") had the female groupie fanbase. Poor schmuck. He was a victim of his own bullshit and Nancy kept everybody from helping him. That cunt.

They were severely untalented when it came to playing.
They improved slightly over time, but they're still nothing fancy. They're average punk musicians that write average punk songs.
The Seven Ages of Rock show pointed out that Glenn was the most talented (which is funny, considering his replacement was the least talented). Glenn wrote a major portion of most of the songs, apparently.

Wrong, as per usual.
The band was pre-fabricated because Malcom McLeran and Vivian Westwood threw the band together to sell clothing. Lydon wasn't even an original member, and even he says that he was asked to join the band for his image over his talent.

Johnny Rotten never really had anything particularly good to say about Sid, he mentioned Vicious being tone deaf and how Sid thought of himself more as a model while on stage and this irritated Rotten, which isn't surprising. As far as being "the backstreet boys of punk" they never considered themselves to be a punk band, everybody else did.

You're logic is fucking asinine. It doesn't matter if they did or didn't mean to sell clothes. What they had planned was nothing of what they expected. Pre-fabrication means nothing at that point of the unkown as far as I'm concerned. The band ended cause nobody could see where it was taking them. I'm still trying to figure what you're deficiency in thought is.

The band ended because they fucking hated each-other and weren't having any fun.
They were pre-fabricated and everything they did was to continue to cause chaos to garner more attention and make more money.
The last thing Rotten said at their last show was: "Ever get the feeling like you've been cheated?"

Really, because I'm pretty sure all along their plan was to was cause trouble and piss people off and get attention and make money, because that's what they were told to do, and they didn't know any better. And you know why I think this? BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT THEY FUCKING SAID.

I was getting tired of them arguing something I wasn't defending. I could care less if the Sex Pistols were pre-fab. Doesn't really make a damn diffrence any which way. The fact that they did make as much trouble as they did is what I still like about them. Defending thier substance is like pissing into the wind. No point, you're just gonna lose. I never denied them being pre-fab. My point is that they were all still who they were even if they were hand picked.

Dude my whole point has been "who cares?". They made some good records and that's enough for me. Like Metallica, I love thier early stuff, but over time they turned into dogshit. Doesn't stop me from listening to the albums I like. Getting too serious about music is pretty lame. There's a bunch of genres I like, but I could never mingle with the people in thier respective scenes. Like Black Metal. I like a lot of BM, but most of it's followers have sharp metal objects lodged up thier ass. Same with crust/anarcho punk. I never disliked the genre. Just all the pseudo political uptight assholes that populate the scene who are on thier personal crusades that left me sour. Even at that I still listen to some bands from the genre once in a while. Taking things too seriously and expecting people to be perfect is a little too fascist for my taste.

i voted for country cos its my least favourite , i was enjoying the first few pages of this thread untill all the debating of who is right and who is wrong started again
its music and if it sounds good i really couldnt give a shit who or what it is , i love slayer , they are one band who havnt tried to go off in a differant direction from who they are unlike metalica or megadeth or many many others i started listening to many years ago .
i must admit that most of the cds i buy nowadays are old rather than just released and since getting into punk over 14 odd years ago i have loved finding old (new to me) bands yet i still like a lot of other types of music as well , i actually bought my chemical romances cd for my youngest lad and thought that it wasnt to bad , dont make me a fucking emo though .....or does it ????

LMAO wtf is "nu-metal" ? Now I know of "nuNRG"...and that's awesome!
From wiki:
Nu metal was literally a new age of metal. It was a combination of modern "Urban music" and Metal. Nu metal bands would sometimes feature urban styles for example hip-hop, modern guitar effects, freestyle turntables/scratching and on occasion more than one drummer.
The term was first used for a review of a 1997 Coal Chamber Concert in Spin magazine in the form "new metal". Categorization of specific artists as "nu metal" is difficult, an issue made more prevalent in the online community by traditional metal fans who take offense to the term. Nu metal began as a mix of different genres, so the definition is not solid. Nevertheless it is a legitimate term. Linkin Park's Meteora, for example, is listed as "alternative" on AOL Music Now,[3] and three different genres ("rock", "metal", and "alternative") on Metacritic.[4] Because their style was not clearly defined, nu metal bands were often considered within multiple other genres. For example, Korn cross into Alternative metal and industrial metal, Limp Bizkit and P.O.D. cross into rapcore, Disturbed crosses into Hard rock and alternative metal, Linkin Park crosses into the genres alternative rock and rapcore.
While Korn was one of the bands that founded the nu metal genre, they do not want to be placed in this category. In interviews, the band claims that they "… hate the nu-metal term," arguing that it "… doesn't mean anything."[5]
