I just bought the new Spinnerette CD - I know it has been out for a little bit but for me it is new.

I would think if you are a Distillers fan you might not like the new pop sound that this album has. If you are a Brody fan, then you will like it.... maybe.... It does have that pop flair to it with some catchy songs. But, i have to warn you that Brody actually tries to sing and she kind of pulls it off in the studio. So, the vocals do fit nicely. She does some screams now and then to remind you were she came from. All in all for me, I like this album. Not very many punk singers can make a switch like this... ala Billy Idol when he left Generation X..

Thumbs up!

I cant say I "hate" but I am not impressed. I pulled up a few songs off this post and listened on myspace... I deleted my original post, it wasn't a glowing review, and the "review" really isn't a review but a quick opinion. Sounds like Courtney Love on much of it, 1 track was OK. She reminds me of what most modern day punk reminds me of.... Crap.
A review of a release should be more than a paragraph.

hate is probably a strong word, but i really really dont like em. one of their songs was tolerable, but yea, it does sound like her obsession with courtney love is beginning to take over. i think im that unimpressed because her work with tha distllers, in my opinion, was incredible, especially lyrically speaking. but i hear alot of thoe lyrics came from armstrong or sinn, dunno if theres any truth to that but whatever

I understand what you are saying. I have to agree with you. There have been many bands who have left their "punk roots" I am not sure if she ever was a punk. I did like the Distillers, but this current stuff isn't punk. I am open to other styles, but I cant put her new stuff in a "style" just sounds like generic Courtney Love crap to me.

It's one of those CDs you will find in the bargain bin for .50 cents a few years down the road.

id categorize it as another washed up has-beens last attempt of fame. i dunno if she was ever punk either, she looked it, and sounded like it, but i think she just takes tha form of her current husband and runs with it

Yea, I am with you on that. But that is one thing that has annoyed me over and over thru the years, people who look punk, sound punk, but in the end they are nothing more than trying to use punk as a stepping stone. Some bands have tasted major label success, and usually crawl back to the punk scene and want to forget about the major lablel... See: Bad Religion, Adicts. And there are more.

And I wouldn't call this a review, its a paragraph of an opinion without pointing out the songs tracks.

Me, I was not a Distillers fan. I am FOR SURE not a fan of Queens of the Stone Age. But, I think if you are open minded, there is a chance to like this band. she for sure sounds less like Courtney on this album.. Punks who are stuck on Brody's past probably won't like it

I hear no Courtney on this album whatsoever. Maybe on the Distillers you could here some HOLE in there.

she is trying to go mainstream... $$ Let her, who cares?

The only issue I have with Brody is she could lose some weight....

I don't like it nearly as much as I do The Distillers, but it isn't bad.

Its what happens, she is in a diiferent place, more happy with the world, than angry at it. Her music she produces represents that.

People would complain if she just re-hashed The Distillers back catalogue. She is making music that matters to her. Is that not whats important?

I need to get this album. Only heard Ghetto Love, Valium Knights and another one I forgot the name of, but they got lodged in my head so might as well give it a go.
