I've been thinking about this a bit lately - as joining this site has jogged a lot of memories! For me, some of the best memories I have relate to seeing great bands. However, I've also seen some stinkers! I'd really like to hear other people's experiences.
Question: What was the greatest show you've ever been to?
Hard choice to make. The Clash at Festival Hall, Melbourne was pretty special. Magazine were fantastic as well. On the local front, The Birthday Party were absolutely legendary!
Question: What's the worst band you've ever seen in concert?
Johnny Thunders and band (including Glen Matlock on guitar) - sad to have to say it - but he absolutely sucked
UK Subs probably earlier this year. Nothing over the years could compete with that. It was just at a pretty small venue (The Arthouse), which made it all the more special. Probably would have been Mad Sin though if they hadn't cancelled their shows
Worst... probably NOFX... i mean i love em, but the shows were shit really.
Funny how best and worst can be in the same year..

I wish I'd seen the UK Subs! They didn't make it to Canberra.
I saw Johnny Thunders once and that was enough. He wasn't even out of it, just boring and going through the motions. A big disappointment and I wish I'd seen him with the Heartbreakers. However, he was still better than all the hair metal bands shows I was dragged to during the 80's.
My favorite live performers/ shows would have to be Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, the Cramps, the reunited Gang of Four show I saw in Philly a couple of years back, Iggy Pop, the Dictators,999 and the UK Subs.
I also saw the Clash open for the Who and the Ramones a few times.

hmm it depends. When I was 15, a show I'd consider shitty now, would have probably been totally awesome to me back then. It sucks being old. There's too many shows to choose from. They all blend together after awhile. You also gotta seperate fave shows you've seen, favorite shows you've played, and favorite bands that you saw(where the live show might have sucked but you didn't care).

Thanks Jeff,
I saw the Cramps around 1990 and they were great! I'd love to see them again. As for the Gang of Four - I'd give A LOT to see them play. I envy you - though I don't envy the hair metal band experiences!

You make some good points Chris, and yeah it does suck being old! Mind you, I wouldn't change being young when I was and seeing all the great music I was lucky enough to see for anything! I bet every generation says that though - even baby boomer/hippy types!
I did see some shows (Jesus Jones - oh the shame!) that I'm sure were better because I was "chemically enhanced".... And on that point too, I have no memories of some other stuff. Apparently I saw the Gun Club. I wish I could remember this!
Did the exploited play a canberra show?
Thinking about it i'd easily rate D.O.A. that played a couple of weeks ago as an equally good a show as the subs. Never would have thought that they'd ever end up playing here!
Piss poor turnout though for a band as good as them. Joey shithead deserved better i thought....

Nah! They didn't. That's one of the problems of having to live here! Hardly anyone plays here! I did know that D.O.A were coming and couldn't go because of all things I had a job interview the next day... didn't want to turn up "worse for wear" Sorry to hear that they had a poor turnout btw.

Ah, to be young and stupid! Most of my early concert experiences were on the same level. I saw a lot of shows but can't remember much about them. I regret that too.

Don't they reckon that if you lived through the 80s you probably don't remember them! Apt in my case at least. Young and stupid indeed!

My best show was probably the Fucked Up weekend last year, even though technically it was 3 shows.
I can choose a worst show. To many local drunk punk shows to choose from.

I went and saw Mephiskapheles once. They were so drunk they couldn't play or remember the words, even to the Bumblebee Tuna song. Absolutely awful.

You know it's funny, I've talked to people that saw Johnny play before 1982, and they all say it was the greatest show they've seen, and then I've chatted with people who saw him after 1982, and they all repeat what you said.
When I saw the Dolls last March this woman I met told me she actually saw them in 74 and had yet to see anything as unique as they were. But she also said that this current line-up is probably alot better as far as ability is concerned.
All of this is a perfect example of why heroine should never be fucked with.

Best: Black Flag '86
Worst: (probably the most difficult answer yet on punkrockers.com...
Agnostic Front / Ignite in the mid 90s...
A.F. because of the distance of the fall from what they used to
play and Ignite because they are absolutely horrible.
But really, this answer is at best a tie with a dozen other shows)

I've got a few bests: Neon Christ, Rocket From The Tombs, Circle Jerks (early days), The Glory (yes, the UK Oi! band), Fang, Oi Polloi, The Vibrators (they played all night, nearly a four hour set until the sun came up the next morning!) Youth Brigade (early days) Adicts (almost...original line up), Naked Raygun, Ramones (pre-Dee Dee King), etc....
The worst: Major Accident-the were way to drunk to even stand much less hold their instruments. I would forgive it but I saw them this way twice on seperate occasions! Corrossion Of Conformity with Simon Bob-after Animosity they were loosing it pretty quick!

Best-Flaming Lips (Aesthetically) Actual Best-The Fall (This year and last)
Worst would have to be a little band called 'Puddle of Mudd' ( or another called 'Brand New') I was retching on the dirt, both times, not in a good way.

X this year was pretty fucking good. Also, Shane MacGowan & the Popes a few years ago, and Iggy Pop around the same time... Those three are all tied for best. Any number of TSOL shows on the east coast probably come close, too.
As for the worst? Mephiskapheles.

My Best: I would say Gogol Bordello last week, or this CD realese show for a local band called Larry and His Flask, a couple years ago.
My Worst: I'm not really sure. Possibly the second time I saw Leftover Crack. They didn't seem into it at all and Stiza forgot some lyrics. I still like them though ;)

Limp Biscuit...
shame on Clutch for being on the bill - they certainly fell far from when they first began.

I see a lot of TSOL on this thread. Did you any old timers see the Joe Wood fronted version in the 80s? I remember going to see them a few times and yelling "Code Blue" the whole time.. .it made them very angry.
Though, admittedly, I still put on Change Today... I actually kind of like it.

That album is pretty tolerable. It was that piece of shit, complete hair-metal farce that they released after "Change Today" that was the real shit.

I saw them when Revenge came out & they weren't too bad. Revenge had a couple listenable songs. It was Hit & Run where they lost me. That album was a big, steaming pile of No Cash.

Revenge wasn't too bad - I remember the song Madhouse was pretty good live.
I still have Hit and Run on L.P. I wouldn't really call it hair metal. I'd say they were hearkening back to '60s classic rock...especially say...the Doors.

Everybody's a Cop was a decent song, too.
Caught the Exploited in sydney at the metro....show was heavy as shit
