I'd form a tribe of plastic miners. We'd mine landfills for plastic to be turned into oil to fuel our roadwarrior style vehicles. Might as well. 75 years from now they'll be doing that anyway.

ah...i think id go back to guilds. with apprenticeships instead of schooling and a republic of socrates, and restart art nouveau... i think its a movement that todays world needs, in order to reform the human condition. but i guess thats more of a world view id like than a sub culture.
well then. subculture... id like an underwater subculture, where you live like beavers in dams underwater and get to wear cool gear. i think that would be fun.

I'm not sure you could call this a new subculture, as it's more of a new sub genre of punk rockers. Take the politics of Anarcho/punks and the music of headbangers and Crust/punks and create "Scavenger Punx" who basically ride around on whizzers and dumpster dive for things that can be repaired, reused and recycled. But that's only my own twisted fantasy.

Cthulhu has more of a cult status than subculture. Pump the name into a search engine. I've been approached by completely random people of all sorts of cultural and educational background when they find out I have a portrait of Cthulhu on my left forearm or see me wearing any HP Lovecraft paraphanalia.

Buy an HP Lovecraft book cause most of them have a good introductionion explaining the history of Howard Phillips Lovecraft and why he has been accredited for so much long after his death. In short he was the father of American Horror writings. I've never had someone I introduced his writing to not become emgulfed in his works. The movie Reanimator was based around his story.

I do not disagree, but Charles Dickens, Edward Bulwer-Lytton, and Théophile Gautier all had thier influence also. Poe does get credited with detective fiction and is associated with the emergence of science-fiction, but wasn't the sole source of mystery and macabre.

I recommend the new edition of the Necronomicon writen under the name "Mad Arab" Abdul Alhazred(but by now should just plainly be under HP Lovecraft). I found a nice new publication by penguine classics called The Call of Cthulhu and Other Weird Stories. The book that really gave me insight into his influences is HP Lovecrafts Book of Horror which is a book of his favorite classic tales that influenced his writing. That's the problem with HP though is all of his books are a composite of his essays. Plus a good amount of future fame may come from his correspondance with other authors. The man wrote letters like you wouldn't believe and was very keen. It may be more prudent to call him the father of modern horror, because he was a huge shaping figure in the horror/science-fiction community at the turn of the century.

Is something getting lost in the translation? Because when I read it I got the impression that books were illegal & the firemen went around burning them. The exact opposite of what opfiend is suggesting. Of course, it has been 30 years since I read it, so I might be remembering it wrong, or thinking of another book.

I guess 3a is talking about the part of the book when Montag, the hero of the novel, meets the people who "become books" ( each person memorizes a book and passes it on to another person, so a book can´t be destroyed when paper is burned). These outsiders/rebels of the Fahrenheit 451 repressive society in Ray Bradbury´s story, they could be in fact described as not far from Opfiend´s idea, for they represent "hope of a better world" where culture (in this case, literature) is nurtured, not destroyed.

The Necronomicon is a fake book invented by H.P. Lovecraft. Many scholars debate that he created it just so that nerds around the world could argue that it's real, and blow wads of cash on fake "original" copies of the book. As a side note, my friend Nick from the band Dodge Dart is selling a bible autographed by Jesus on eBay....

but we'd be hardcore though people would say "look at that faggot"
in return we'd roll up our sleeves and square up in the fighting irish stance
we'd say in such high pitch british acsents "tally ho your looking for a tussle? well ill knock your block off"
real 17th or 18th century britian style
I think Adam Ant already did that. But there's definitely not enough Dandy Highwaymen in punk these days.

Well, this is only a dream of mine, but a sub-group of punks who travel around in vans/cars/trucks modded with scavenged and dumpstered parts. Just go around living in a big modded vehicl, rolling into a town, dumpstering food, adios. Nomad style.
I guess to explain it more clearly, punx who take a junker ride and mod it with dumpstered parts and just head it up straight caravan nomad style.
