What's Killing Punk
11/09/2007 04:32:35 / angry
I’m sick of all these pretentious fucks who call themselves punk
bands.
After our last drummer decided to go off, get married, and
find god we decided it was time to call it quits. Now, after a year long hiatus,
we’re back and I’m sick as fuck to see that the local scene here in Orange
County has gotten even worse then since
we left it. In the short time that we’ve been back I’ve ran into so many prima
donna, wannabe, sell-outs that I almost want to quit and never come back.
When did punk get to the point were bands began to deny
shows on the basis of crowd size, venue, or even time slots? Has it really come
to a time were the only thing that drives the music is exposure and merch
sales? Lately I’ve been contacting some old friends of ours only to hear that
their new “image” or “sound” doesn’t mesh well with us or that they’ve simply
decided to cease communication or deny show opportunities because we’re not “big”
enough to be talking to them anymore and they’ve grown out of the bar scene.
Ticket sales and large venues are what’s killing the punk
scene today. It’s no longer about going on stage and saying what you want, its
all about looking good for the cameras and making sure someone important hears
your set. Every one of these plastic punks ruins the music we love.
There are only a few of us left who care more about the
music then the bullshit that surrounds it. We play in bars every weekend to the
same people with the same enthusiasm and we’ll never stop until they force us
to. So I just want to say this: Plastic Punks, leave us the fuck alone. We don’t
want your friendship.
