Rockabilly Magazine review: Stupid In Stereo - The Day The Earth Stood Stupid
DATE: 02/04/2010 11:17:07 / MOOD: other
"One might think a young psychobilly trio whose chosen themes include loosed defectives, machetes, recreational graveyards, and netherworld railroads would dress the foul part: neon mohawks, spiky leathers, grotesque kabuki face paint. That SIS doesn't cultivate such might seem incongruous, until one reflects that only in drive-in shriekers do villains opt for becoming drag; in real life, atrocity perpetrators resemble nondescript passers by. Then it's too late. Recommended "Escape of the Maniac", "Cemetery Shuffle"." --DC, Rockabilly Magazine

Punk Globe Review: Pipes And Pints - Until We Die
DATE: 02/03/2010 12:59:40 / MOOD: other
"Pipes and Pints fucking rawk! They are from The Czech Republic. Formed in 2006 by Vojta Kalina who had always wanted to have a band combining punk rock with dirty folk music like Shane MacGowan and The Pogues... I would like to interview these guys as we have not done much with any bands from Eastern Europe. All the tracks are great on this CD but I do like Kensington Club the best.. And of course When The Pipers Play.." --Ginger Coyote, Punk Globe

Album Review: Pipes And Pints - Until We Die
DATE: 01/30/2010 22:58:39 / MOOD: happy
"I have been listening to “Until We Die”, the first full-length release from the Czech quintet, Pipes and Pints all week. Since I first got it, in fact, and nothing else. You see, instead of just hearing a CD before reviewing it, I like to be REALLY familiar with it. Yeah, I say that, but the fact of the matter is, I just can’t enough of this CD! There isn’t a dog on it! Every track is a full-tilt barn-burner that had me singing along, drumming on the dash, and really wishing I could catch a live show from these guys. This was all the more welcomed considering when I first got it, I thought I would hear, well, something less. “A standard rock outfit,” I thought, “with a token trad. instrument. Been there.” Well, yeah, it is a standard rock outfit, (drums, bass, guitar, and vocals,) and a single trad. instrument, (bagpipes,) but there is a whole lot more going on here. Something harder to put a finger on. “Until We Die” contains thirteen honest, and cliché-free tracks. There are no punked-up versions of old traditional Celtic tunes, (No “Scotland the Brave,” or “Danny Boy,”) or slow, mournful piping. In fact, aside from the band’s name, the bagpipes share no more of the spotlight than do the lead vocals, or the guitar, (the latter of which stretches out on occasion and runs some honest-to-goodness guitar solos, an increasingly uncommon thing in this genre!) The pipes, themselves, seem to serve as a standard punk rock instrument on “Until We Die,” possessing only an incidental Celtability, and seem to be a completely natural element here. This has a great deal to do with the songs, of course. All of the tracks have a very natural, and organic feel to them, written simply for the instruments at hand and without any forced identity.
Pipes and Pints may well be deeply entrenched in the ‘Gangs All Here/Do Or Die’-era Dropkick Murphys-end of the Celtic Punk genre, but this is not just another copycat band. There is something very real about them and it is in full-dress here on “Until We Die.” And, having totally immersed myself in this CD for a week now, I feel quite justified in highly recommending Pipes and Pints’“Until We Die".” --Christopher, Shite'n'Onions

"crust is a must when it comes to riverside california's for fuck sake.chantal from for fuck sake may just have a better voice than kirsten patches from naked aggression.for some reason for fuck sake remind me of atari teenage riot although atari teenage riot is more of an electronic band they follow political punk roots just like for fuck sake does and if you listen to both bands you may just hear simularities there.fuck the system before it fucks you is the obvious for fuck sake message.the piss drunk e.p. dons the bands hanging out getting drunk in a dirty alley way shooting the shit, telling you to fuck right off and pissing on the wall to make the words piss drunk e.p.,even the cat looks pissed.this band is mad as hell and is not going to take it.here we've got punk unfolded in the fastest form, art work on the cover by a pure genius and well for fuck sake a brilliant e.p. filled with anger, politics, religion and well just plain reality and of course a beer or too on"cheers to beers",for fans of atari teenage riot, naked aggression and f-minus,hell yeah definatley a 11!,best songs-"suffer through the apocalypse","seize fate by the throat"" --punk rock beth, Punk Rock, Hardcore and Ska Music Resource n Review

Album Review: Pipes And Pints - Until We Die
DATE: 01/14/2010 14:34:09 / MOOD: in love
"Where the Dropkick Murphys have been combining traditional Irish music with street rock sounds Pipes and Pints take on music with more of a Scottish twist. They play this up by adding bagpipes to every song and they even have a song called "Braveheart." Aside from the Scottish influences the music has a newschool street rock type vibe in the vein of later Bruisers, DKM, the Ducky Boys, One Man Army, Street Dogs, Swingin’ Utters, The Briggs, etc, etc. If you’re into that type of stuff then Pipes and Pints will fit nicely into your C.D. collection with their songs about drinking, fighting, and social injustice. Definitely some spirited stuff here." --Ditch, Big Wheel Online Magazine

UK Punk And Oi Review: Stupid In Stereo-The Day The Earth Stood Stupid
DATE: 11/28/2009 16:15:11 / MOOD: other
"Stupid in Stereo are a beer loving horror punk/psychobilly band from Washington in the USA. They claim that ‘we are not a band, we’re a drinking team’! Their influences include Tiger Army, The Misfits, Oxymoron, The Real McKenzies, Street Dogs and Nekromantix. Their debut album, The Day the Earth Stood Stupid, is released on Unrepentant Records and is energetic, fast, fun, well produced and well played. It will appeal to punks and psychobillies alike and even though these guys are good at what they do it is obvious that they don’t take themselves too seriously. Highlights include Cemetary Shuffle, Maniac with a Machete, the more punky Another Round and the singalong I Met Her at the Haunted House, which kind of reminds me of the Dropkick Murphys in places! I have never been a massive fan of horror punk/psychobilly but really enjoyed this CD, which was a breath of fresh air, and I can highly recommend it." --Jeanna, UK Punk And Oi

Album Review: Stupid In Stereo-The Day The Earth Stood Stupid
DATE: 11/25/2009 18:28:21 / MOOD: other
"stupid in stereo brings you a not so stupid album release "the day the earth stood stupid', they give you their horror punk/rockabilly/psychobilly sound and drown you in it. the lead vocals of yates pulls you in like the vampire he sounds like and it sucks the life right out of your ears. the music is right on to that horror punk/rockabilly/psychobilly sound you're looking for. so wake the dead on songs like the "cemetary shuffle" and get your ticket for the "hellbound train" and while you're at don't forget to to have "another round" with your zombie friends while your at it. so far so good and very spooktacular. definitely a listen you will want to listen to again. 10 out of a 10 for sure. pick this brilliant release up and others on unrepentant records. there are no shitty songs on this cd but best songs to me would have to be "hellbound train", "full moon's lament", "cemetary shuffle", "panic and the fire department" and last but certainly not the least "another round"" --Beth, Punk Rock, Hardcore and Ska Music Resource n Review

Branimir Lokner review of Stupid In Stereo-The Day The Earth Stood Stupid
DATE: 10/21/2009 02:02:04 / MOOD: other
"Stupid In Stereo are newer hope of actuelle national punk/psychobilly movement. They were formed in 2007 year, and during the forthcoming period a group toured extensively throughout the Pacific Northwest. They started as a punk cover band, but later on a group finds its recognizable stylish approach. Stupid In Stereo are fresh punk/psychobilly act influental by the british punk movement from the late 70's and USA horror psychobilly variants as well. They have found its specific performing formula, and its debut " The Day The Earth Stood Stupid" mostly in relevant way describes a group's wantings and capabilities. They have offered a 15 mostly dinamic tracks, also in some way with evidental melodic traces, fullfield with simply but clear arrangments includings. Stupid In Stereo judging by its musical offerings on debut album are pretty promising act, with clear final messages and more than interesting performings." --Branimir Lokner (Serbia)

"Loud Fast Psychobilly from Kennewick Washington.. Formed in 2007 after doing the weekly open mic night at their favorite watering hole. This trio has been kicking major ass every since playing loud tight music. There are 15 songs on this CD and each song is about 2 minutes of high energy! I like Track 1 I wonder if it may have been a take off of X Ray Specs "The Day The World Turned Day Glow" . All the songs are good with tight musicianship." --Ginger Coyote
