October 30th @ Whiskey Richards on State Street in Santa Barbara  Free Hallowee show ( free swag and candy and some free Silent Meow Halloween CD Singles) w/ Floater Six, Horrorsquad and Cabaret de la morte - horror burlesque, 1 Dollar microbrews & PBR from 8 - 9 p.m plus Happy Hour drink special until Midnight!!

I just have to rage a little bit here about something that seems so completly ridiculous. We got asked by a big promoter if we are interested in playing with one of our favorite bands. It all sounded way too good to be true and I knew there was a catch.

Right after we said yes, the promoter wrote back that we need to pre-sell 63 tickets, 16.50 each which equals 1000 Dollars.

We play at the same club a lot but we never have to pay to play before and no show cost more than 10 bucks, even for bands that bring in a lot of people - this big band we were supposed to play with isn't really well known here and last time I saw them in town they brought in only  about 30 people..This town is sadly a fucking college town, people go to see hip hop bands but to get them out to see a punk rock band you need to probably pay THEM to do that.  I wouldn't want my friends to pay so much money to see us play fuck that.

WE were offered as a PAY that we get 20 tickets for free...but after selling tickets to 63 people ( I don't even know that many) I probably would have to go and invite all the homeless people in this town so I can give the tickets away and they might even not show up.

I really don't understand the concept. You're  a booker. It's your job to promote the band, set up a band that sounds like the headliner...but instead they looking for a stupid band that  will do anything for some publicity...open yar asshole really wide please... Fuck...maybe it's really clever, because what else do you need to do as a promoter once you found someone that is that desperate and dumb you can sit on your corrupted  ass and watch those poor bastard try to promote and sell the show.

Maybe it's an american thing? I don't know but when I lived in Germany we fucking worshiped the bands that came to play at the clubs were I worked. We went ahead got a really cool headliner, found maybe 1 or 2 matching bands ( and not 8), promoted the SHIT out of the show, made FOOD for the bands, looked for a sleeping place for the bands that were out of town, found a good soundguy, told the press, the radio stations about the show and then had a great fucking time when they played. The bands got fed,got free drinks, gas money and we split the door at the end of the night ANd the got RESPECT. That's probably the magic word here. I know this sounds like wonderland and I know that this is nothing a band ever will get here in the US, but how about at least a little bit of respect and dignity? I've seen so many clubs here that not only  make you BEG to play there, but on top of that they treat you like SHIT, cut your sound off while you're still in stage...
