STAB YOUR BACK was officially formed July 13th, 2009 by DamienSetAgainst(DEADSETAGAINST, JOHNNY COCK AND THE NUTS, FOR INSTANCE), Dave Carney(CORRUPTORS, SKEEZICKS, ASSAULT), Barnz(SKEEZICKS, THE LAST CALL, FURGUSONS), Jeff Towe(DRUNK IN PUBLIC, NEXT TO NOTHING), and James Vep(REDUX) as a side project to their other current bands at the time UNDISPUTED(Dave & Damien), THE KILZ(Damien & James), and WEAPON A(Jeff & Barnz). By the end of the month UNDISPUTED would call it quits and it became apparent that WEAPON A had unofficially called it quits prior to STAB YOUR BACK forming. THE KILZ remained strong for another year before going their seperate ways also, but STAB YOUR BACK was definately no side project to that band as soon as the 5 of them had their 1st full practice together.
With this lineup the band would write a 10 song set, record their 1st 6 song EP, get on a couple comps, and play 2 shows in their first 4 months as a band(the 1st month and a half without Jeff even in the same state). Jeff would leave the band for non band related personal issues only after 4 months of forming. Not wanting to lose any productivity the band would play 1 show as a 4 peice with James singing instead of playing guitar and having Barnz as the only guitarist.
Dave and Damien had been through the whole ordeal of a seemingly endless search for a lead singer during the majority of their time in UNDISPUTED, partially contributing to the forming of STAB YOUR BACK. With that in mind the band decided to waste no time in recruiting WEE RYAN, Damien's ex roommate and fellow bandmember and singer for THE BRIGANDS. This would turn out to be a great decision as this lineup immediately started writing new songs, playing live shows, and even recorded their second live performance together opening for the Adolescents and Youth Brigade and releasing it as a 10 song CD.
In July 2010 the band recorded their 2nd studio EP "Beg To Breathe", but before the release of the 2nd EP James would leave the band due to personal reasons only a month after his and Damien's other band THE KILZ had called it quits. After careful consideration the band narrowed it down to 2 guitarists they would hit up and if neither of them worked out they would rework some songs and happily remain a 4 piece as the band chemistry was at an all time high and the shows they were beginning to play as a 4 piece were going extremely well. Fortunately or unfortunately both guitarists were unable to join do to ones schedule and the distance the other would have to travel. Shortly after the decision to remain a 4 piece was set they hit the studio again in December 2010 to rework a couple songs from the "Beg to Breathe" EP to be more like they play them as a 4 piece and be released in January 2011. The early versions before the reworking of some of those songs will be released on upcoming compilations. Also during that same visit to the studio Ryan rerecorded vocals to the 1st EP for an alternate release as a limited 7" to be released by Jerk Off Records early 2011.
