"Lux is definitely one of the very best drummers our local scene has to offer..."
- Ken Morton, Highwire Daze Magazine Oct. '07
"Within the decidedly testosterone-driven ranks of metal drumming, a slim Mexican goddess has been elbowing her way to the forefront."
- New Blood, Drum! Magazine Oct. '07
"...the beat was kept by knockout drummer Lux, a spike-heeled, stone-pro dynamo who’s probably one of the best ladies behind a kit these days."
- Rob Swick, All Access Magazine Sept. '07
"Lux makes history Mystery Hangup drummer, LUX, set a new record and took home the title in the 'Battle of the Hands' (female division) with 901 singles in 60!"
- WFD, Drum! Magazine April '07
"Lux. She is one of the most awesome drummers I have heard. For those of you who know how good Shane Shook (Twelve Tribes) is. Well, they could go toe to toe for hours and still hang with each other. Dare I say she could even hold her own with the likes of Gene Hoglan."
- Mikael Kristopher, Open Grave Radio January '07
"There’s a barely controlled chaos at work here that is exciting.
The galloping pace is set by Lux’s unique, off-kilter,
Keith Moon inspired drumming."
- Music Connection Magazine, September '06
"lux, the drummer, keeps the beat going in the band through her driving
style of playing. In the world today it is hard to find a
young lady that can compete with lux as she works out the beat
behind her drum kit."
- John McCartney, Raceway News June '06

lux was born on August 12, 1985 and at the age of twelve, she was taught how to play drums at a Latin music school she and her sisters attended. They learned to play Cumbias, Rancheras, and Balladas; Latin dance music. By the age of 13, lux and her sisters were playing paid gigs at weddings and parties. For the next three years they continued to play Latin music until they were introduced to the song "Zombie" by The Cranberries... After being exposed to hard rock, there was no turning back. lux went on to teach herself to play hard rock while listening to bands such as The Cranberries, Van Halen, Megadeth, and Sonic Youth. During her sophomore year of high school, her brother brought home a Judas Priest album: Painkiller. lux was amazed at the incredible double bass speed and fast rolls, she bought a second bass drum and has been playing double bass ever since.
lux has achieved major credibility in the 10 years of her drumming career. She has thousands of loyal fans and is recognized in the male dominated metal and Indie experimental scene. Her signature drumming combines heavy metal double-bass with complex rhythms and dynamics, all while playing in stilettos and it doesn’t stop there. She also has the creative mind to incorporate elements of progressive and experimental rock rhythms. Music Connection Magazine describes her drumming as “…unique, off kilter, Keith Moon inspired drumming.”
This young drum goddess has opened for Third Eye Blind, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Christian Death 1334, Chris Caffery, and Doro. She was on the 2006 Vans Warped Tour with the bands Shiragirl and Mystery Hangup (which she received recognition for in the September ’06 issue of Drum! Magazine). In December 2006, lux and Cat of Mystery Hangup were announced as 'Miss WFD 2007' for the World's Fastest Drummer competition at the NAMM '07 Convention where lux amazingly set the record for Single Strokes in the Female Category at 901 Strokes in 1 minute. Shortly after, she was seen once again in Drum! and Modern Drummer magazines, April & May issues, for her record.
lux has a very promising future with her ability to play double bass like Dave Lombardo and fast rolls like Terry Bozzio (both her personal drum heroes). She takes music seriously and enjoys playing it. She has her own Signature drumsticks with Pro-Mark, is an official
endorser of Paiste cymbals and Axis Percussion pedals, and recently was
offered and accepted an endorsement with Serial Drummer Clothing, run
by drummer Franky Costanza. lux receives great attention from rock fans alike and in November she was awarded ‘Best Female Drummer’ in the Metal/Hard Rock category at the All Access Magazine Music Awards. On December 6th, 2007 she was awarded ‘Outstanding Female Drummer of the Year’ by Rock City Magazine.
Her current bands are: Mystery Hangup (all female Indie/Experimental Rock) and Sacred Storm (Thrash/Progressive Metal). Sacred Storm released their debut album Man Versus Machine in May ’07 and performed on a west coast ‘SHRED OR BE DEAD TOUR’ in June. Mystery Hangup also released a debut album this past summer titled “Three Moons And The Crashing Sun” in August and performed on a nationwide tour with several headlining shows. Their album was recorded and produced by Paul Roessler (Screamers, Josie Cotton, 45 Grave) and Geza X (produced Dead Kennedy’s, The Germs) at Satellite Park Studios in Malibu, CA. Mystery Hangup will also be releasing a music video for their song ‘Vista De Un Ladron’ in late January.
And the new year is only going to get busier! Mystery Hangup is currently in the process of booking a 2 week West Coast tour starting mid-April. Sacred Storm will be on a nationwide U.S. tour beginning early June - July and afterwards, lux will hit the road again with Mystery Hangup on another U.S. tour from mid-August - September. lux is an artist with a great passion for drumming and she is here to make a mark on the scene! |
