1. Commies

 2. Fascists

 3. Poseurs

 4. Hippies

 5. Trendies

 6. Straight Edge

 7. The worst of all would prolly have to be the older punks that make fun of the young ones with the freshly spiked hair. I mean yea sure they've just got into it but why not have the scene live on through the youth? The worst is the Skins that call other Skins freshcuts as an insult, wot the fuck does it matter if you just shaved your head yesterday as long as you don't think you're this Skinhead God that doesn't need to earn respect it shouldn't. I've been in for coming on three years, I still don't own a Fred Perry Polo and that shouldn't matter. The style is a HUGE part of the scene don't get me wrong but its the heart and soul of it that should be most important. If you're a Skin that's just got cut in, you've got a friend in me. If you're a Punk that just got his/her first Mohawk, Tri-Hawk, Shaved Head, etc. you've got a friend in me. Stay True, Stay Proud and Stay Strong.

Well I didn't expect this many comments on here so I'll say to you all thank you very much for your input and I'm reaching that age where I've been in the scene long enough to not be called a freshcut or poseur. I have all the respect in the world for the young punks and skins as long as they give respect back.

@Zombiewoman: I used to read SLASH, and SEARCH AND DESTROY back in 78-79. Poseur used to advertise in Slash a lot, as well as TROUSER PRESS, CREEM, and (Believe it or not) ROLLING STONE. Unfortunately, their clothing was out of my price range, so I never bought anything from them. I either went the Salvation Army route, or made my own clothes. I DID however, used to by t-shirts from the t-shirt shops in Greenwich Village and St. Marks Place when I would visit my grandmother in N.Y.C. but I've out grown them so they're unwearable now. A lot of the hippies used to give the punks grief in the day, but there were still a few YIPPIES left that were very much in tune what was going on in punk. In fact it was the Yippies that booked D.O.A.s first gig in Chicago, since they were the ones putting on Rock Against Racism U.S.A. The problems back then used to be instigated by Preppies, Jocks, closed minded metal heads/head bangers. (The ones who WOULDN'T accept bands like Slayer, Metallica, and Motorhead, and were more traditional) I'm not sure if my gender, of any measurement of coolnes has anything to do with the respect I get or not. Actually, I just keep to myself, and don't bother to socialize. I guess people just feel the need to come up and talk to me, and from there they decide if I'm alright or not. I can't explain it, I'm just there to see the bands and have a good time, and if I've made a new friend or connection by the end of the night, then it's all good. Hope you get some wheels soon.

Hey Adam sounds like u got around back then! Didn't even know Poseurs was known outside of CA. I still got my original red plaid bondage pants from them, only wore them once to a DK show in Wilmington then a riot happened n my friend n I almost got crushed to death! Never had a problem wit the real Hippies from the 60'smost of them understood the punk movement, they would actually give me stuff. Still got a cool medallion and a fox wrap thats too stinky to wear anymore! I use to have problems with the 70' rockers, they use to spit on us and start fights and we were minors. I guess you get treated differently than I do probably because your a male, and cooler than me!  I plan on going to see some new generation Punk bands in the future and see how it goes for me.  Since I have no running car who know when that'll be.

I remember Poseur. I visited it once 25 years ago when I was in L.A. Used to get their catalogues frequently along w Zed Record's catalogue. Back in my salad days, that was the ONLY way to get good punk gear. (At least Chicago had WAX TRAX records, so the music wasn't much of a problem, but we had to MAIL ORDER our clothes)  Most of the poser skins back then who used to give grief to people are either dead, serving time, or are married w/kids and want NO REMINDERS about their past! The new generation of skins get along just fine w/the punx, even if the disagree on music and politics, at least the days of punx vs skins is past in Chicago, although there are still a few who carry on the stupid feud. (But every scene has it's share of morons and boneheads!) Yeah, I've always been Adam Rebelius, first and foremost. Labels are secondary, and if people need to pidgin hole me for their convenience, that's their business. Actually, I'm still waiting for some greenie to come up to me and tell me I'm old and in the way, but for some reason, the new breed seems to look to me for inspiration. I guess they figure that if someone like me can carry it in my heart as long as I have, there must be hope. I hear ya about not liking the Dead, but LOVE the parking lot scene. If one can put their prejudices about hippies aside for awhile, one could get super baked! (I used to freak out quite a few of them cos I went to a few shows w/a mohawk) @Puretrouble: Glad you liked the joke. Once again, I recommend tracking down a copy of "Bring Me The Head of Jerry Garcia" by Iron Prostate. If you like "One Down, Three to Go" By The Meatmen, this will be right up your alley!

Ha, ha, ha some things never change! When I went to High School in Riverside, CA we had what we called CPR's (Christmas Punk Rockers), because during Winter Break some of the kids would get their parents to take them to Poseurs on Melrose in Hollywood (the most well know Punk shop back then, and Melrose was the street all the Punks hung out at), and when it was time to come back to school, VOILA!!! New Punk Rockers (CPR's!). Of course with some mild hazing and teasing they eventually earned their respect, and then they'd get their turn later to pick on the next new crop of Punks. Another issue we had back then was that the LA & OC punks did not respect us IE (Inland Empire) Punks, but basically we all got along. I remember going to see GBH @ Perkins Palace and seeing these 2 long haired guys there wearing their GBH shirts, I was wondering why they were there, but who cares they liked GBH!  Apparently though some Skin Heads did because outside they started getting beat on really bad, no one was helping them so finally my friend and I distracted the Skins and the guys got away from them.  I have never liked to label myself. and never gave a damn of what other people think of me or say about me. Take me or leave me. I do have to agree with Safetypinsam though, sometimes the young punks are the ones giving the attitude to us old timers.  I remember some young street punk calling me a poser because I was wearing my Docs, and probably didn't look "punk" enough for him.  I just laughed to myself, I have nothing to prove to him or anyone else.  Just be yourself, if the Old Punks give you an attitude then so what?  I've met some very "normal" looking guys who are walking encyclopedia's of Punk, Music or whatever.  It's true never judge a book by it's cover.  You're right everyone has to start somewhere, but you have to admit sometimes it just doesn't look right, and sometimes it looks like some people are just trying too hard!  I'm sure I had my poser looking days when I first started out! And speaking of G.Dead, I've never liked their music, but it sure was fun to hang out in the parking lot with all the Hippies during their shows! BTW-keep up the good attitude.

My first blog deleted, and was better, and if this one deletes so will I!

You tell 'em, Robert!

I agree with you on everything apart from the hippies and straight edge.

Yes, but where's the challenge in that? That' basically shooting fish in a barrel. (But that's just my opinion. What do I know, I'm just some 46 year old Crass lovin' hippy punk! LOL!)

Sorry to inform you but Jerry Garcia was only one of the singers. He was creamated and his ashes were scattered into the Ganges River in india. Say what you want about the Grateful Dead. I've heard it all before, and so have they. I don't/can't blame you for not liking them. They're not everybody's cup of tea. I can also understand the distain for long, indulgent guitar solos, and as far as I'm concerned, their best stuff was prior to 1970. If you like Garage Punk, the first album along with a couple of live albums (Vintage Dead, and Historic Dead) along with various demos from 1966 are REALLY the only things worth owning. I may like thier music, but I understand your distain for "Dead heads". Some of them really ARE dead from the neck up. They can't listen to nor talk about anything else besides the Grateful Dead, and their personal collection of bootleg concert tapes/C.D.s That being said, I had LOTS of fun at their shows when they would come to town. (Did a LOT of good, clean acid) So, bash them all you want. Hey, I'll even help ya just to prove that even I have the ability to laugh at my self and my fondness for the band. O.K.? Let's start. How did Jerry Garcia REALLY die? Acid indegestion!  If you can ever find a copy, pick up Iron Prostate's 45, "Bring Me The Head of Jerry Garcia" As a fan of the Grateful Dead, I laughed my fool head off the first time I heard it. I laughed even HARDER when I played it for "Dead heads" who take themselves and the band TOO seriously and got offended by it. (Of course I'm the type of Beatles fan who thinks "One Down Three to Go" by The Meatmen is funny as fuck) Interesting aside note: Did you know CHARLIE HARPER is a Grateful Dead fan? He even has a Grateful Dead Tattoo to prove it.
