Music: A Tribe Called Quest - Old School Meets New School EP

I am in hog heaven.

My husband connected the record player to the CD recorder.  I got out my vinyl.  I recorded some stuff and I am excited.  As I sit at this computer writing this blog I am listening to sounds from my vinyl collection.

This is the vinyl that has been tucked in a closet shelf for 12 years.  The remenants of my collection.  Most of which I sold when I met my husband at Zed Records.  This music is taking me right back to the spirit of being 19 again.  Having the music tucked away was like having a part of myself tucked away.

I didn't realize how much I was missing until I realized how much I lost. It happened slowly.  I don't want to lose that again.  Plus, I think it's possible for a young person to never lose it in the first place.  How much time that would save.

Tonight I listened to the Palookas from the UK and Distorted Pony.  These two items will probably never be for sale on iTunes.

I bought the Palookas for 94 cents at a Rhino Records sidewalk sale.  I liked the cover art and the band name so I figured I could gamble 94 cents to hear their sound.

Money well spent.

Many years of entertainment.

I wrote the band and told them about how I found their LP and that I liked their sound.  They were grateful to be appreciated and sent me a single: Spit Like Paint.

That's the way the old school ran.  People just connecting with each other and being real like artists not commercial enterprises.  I sometimes sense that this DIY loyalty is missing in today's punk and undergound movement.  Yet, this is a time when punks have so much more power to spread the word thanks to technology.

"Back in the day" we were limited to postcards and fanzines.  The young punks of today have texting, blogging and podcaasting to network with at nearly no cost. I personally want to be involved with that form of media.

I agree with you LQ, music should be enjoyed by all.  I also think that as American's, we should have access to a wide selection of choices.  Espeically with the technological advances we have.

I just wrote a blog about how XM and Sirius both took their punk channels off their satellite programming even though they have 200+ channels.  You might like it: http://tinyurl.com/5c4xss

Right on. I want to do the same thing with the vinal I still have. Most of my collection was ruined with mold when I lived in Pacifica, CA. The reason I like posting my music to this site is that I just don't really believe that music's primary purpose should be to make money. It should be enjoyed by all.

cheers
