There are people starting to amass on my street corners with signs. Suburban street corners- as in the botox, sushi, and Juicy Couture street corners of the South OC. These people are armed with their "Yes on Proposition 8" signs. At first I was very excited. One of the signs proclaimed that Proposition 8 means Free Speech. (Yay!) Another boasted that Proposition 8 "promotes parental responsibility" (I'm getting nervous) and yet another that Proposition 8 "protects families" (uh, yeah I want my family protected). More and more people are carrying these signs and urging me to protect my 1st amendment rights and my family so I dutifully grabbed by polling mailer to look it up. Turns out Proposition 8 proposes to ban gay marriage in California. Huh? I didn't even know California legalized gay marriage until I saw Portia and Ellen on the cover of People magazine. And we've had it in this state for a year. And now I have a chance to protect my family from it. From this dangerous threat that has so relentlessly plagued my family and destroyed my constitutional right to be free- a threat so significant that I did not even know it existed until a few days ago.Good grief people! Mrs. Hummer2 mom slurping your Starbucks with words on your butt and baseball cap harnessing your freshly bleached locks, how can a law allowing two people to get married possibly harm you and your precious family at all? How on earth does keeping these people from legal union benefit you and your family in any possible way? I just don't see it. Mr. over-grown frat boy, far from your college weight, but close in drinking capabilities, stuffed in your mortgage broker suit, smelling of new borrowed money, church and little league, how does this law that our good state chose to pass in any way, shape or form, impede your freedom of speech? Your rights as a parent? I just don't get it. People- did you even read those signs you're holding? Do you even know what your saying? You know, keeping these straight folks from marrying might solve over-population, global warming, energy crisis, and even protect our schools from more spoiled rich kids similarly lacking in values as do their parents, but you don't see gays trying to pass a law to keep them from getting married, do you?I'm not a political person. I'm not a gay person. I'd like to think that I'm a logical person. And here I am, at a loss, staring at these neighbors on the street corners with signs. . .
