Sunday, August 24, 2008-Police smash legal birthday party in hired field......On
Sat night the police shut down our mates birthday party before it had
even started. The Inner Terrestrials were just back from a festival in
Bourgoigne, Eastern France, a 750 mile round trip, and on route to a
village near Newton Abbot - Devon, called East Ogwell. Our mates had
hired a field off a local farmer and everything looked set for a good
party with loads of live bands including Kilnaboy, Russel Can't Drive
and the Inner Terrestrials.At 6pm the soundsystem was turned on
quietly playing dub and chilled out music not tekno, waiting for the
bands to arrive. By 8pm the Devon constabulary had served a section 63

this time lots of friends including us where still on route to the
party, road blocks were in operation throughout the village and
surrounding area. This party was not advertised on the net or flyered,
was not a rave, and only 100 - 150 people, all good mates, were invited.The
police were there in force with riot vans and other strong arm tactics,
stopping people even walking across the farmers fields to get there and
wish their mate happy birthday - even though the farmer had given his
permission to do so.After many hours of trying it became
apparent that they were letting no one in and people not already on the
land had no choice but to turn back.In the small hours of the
morning riot police came in anyway because a 12v car stereo was playing
music (the sound equipment had been packed away when the section was
served around 8pm), and started beating people up with batons,
including disabled people and grandparents and confiscating equipment.Happy
days eh? in these days of suicide bombers, nuclear threats, guns, war
and terrorism our benevolent protectors feel the need to crush anyone
who tries to have a good time without their express permission....
looks like the 3rd reich one the war after all!
