A while back I watched Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (while sober). I thought it was an interestingly odd movie, very slow and quite trippy.

Two days ago I watched it while stoned as fuck and I swear, whoever made this movie accurately captured the thought process of really high people. As lame as it sounds "it made perfect sense". The movie didn't feel slow, it had a very logical flow and many intense colors, sounds and emotions that caught my attention perfectly. What surprised me was how much more closely I could identify with Benicio del Toro's character while high. Whilst sober he seemed crazy and kinda rapey, but upon a second (high) viewing, I noticed that he was more often the voice of reason.

Or maybe I was just really high.

Bill Murray played HST in the film "Where The Buffalo Roam" in the early 80's, with Peter Boyle playing the Benicio del Toro role... Much less "trippy" than Fear & Loathing, but worth checking out... And like Adam said, the books are all "required reading"...

I've been wanting to read that book SO BAD!! Our library doesn't have it but I'm going to try to order a copy from amazon or something. I had a feeling it was based in fact...it just seemed so real!

Ever read the actual book? The book gave birth to a style of writing called, "Gonzo Journalism" which is basically writing down everything not only as it's happening, but while you're in the middle of it all. I was so happy to see that the movie followed the book faithfully to the letter, and nobody monkeyed around with the story. THIS IS AN ACTUAL TRUE STORY! IT REALLY DID HAPPEN! THIS IS NOT A WORK OF FICTION! Have you ever read any of Hunter S. Thompson's books! If you liked the movie, read the book, and the other books he's written. The man lead a very interesting life. He rode w/The Hells Angels, (Wrote a book about that. "Hells' Angels") He covered the 1972 Pesidential campaign, and for some strange reason, was given clearance to ride w/other reporters on Air Force One. (Fear and Loathing on The Campaign Trail 1972) The movie, "The Rum Diaries is a fictionalized account of his early days as a cub reporter. It was a sad day when he killed himself seven years ago. I drank a shot of Wild Turkey in his honor that morning! (101 proof of course) If you enjoyed the film, read the book, and all the other books he wrote. You won't be bored.
