1977 - After listening to a Damned import,and bored with the music of the late 70's, Gordon and Jeff decide to start a punk band. Scott (Mechanics) introduces Gord and Jeff to General Hospital (aka Rikk Agnew). First line-up is Gord on vox, Mike Koerber on guitar, Jeff on bass, and Rikk on drums (imagine a cross between Keith Moon and Rat Scabies).The band learns a few covers and Rikk begins to forge the signature OC sound w/ tunes such as No Way, Youth in Asia, and Creatures. Jeff adds in first attempts at writing; hated, pee, jailbait. Band plays first show; a lunchtime concert at Fullerton High. Mike Ness, a 10th grader, steals our guitar player's distortion pedal after the show.
1978 - Wisely, Rikk moves out to guitar alongside Mike, and Casey Royer joins on drums. The band records Amoeba, Hang 10, and The Saint at Dan Van Patton's studio in San Diego. New tunes are added and shows are played at The Fleetwood, Cuckoo's Nest, Larchmont Hall, etc...In 1979, the band splits up after 2 years.
1981 - After doing the Adolescents album, Rikk rejoins the Detours, with Craig Briscoe on drums. The band adds more tunes written by Rikk, including OC Life, Falling Out, and Section 8. Jeff adds Hang 10 in East Berlin, Obnoxious, Losers, and Guns. More shows are played. The band splits up again after a year.
2006 - The Detours reunite with Gordon on vox, Rikk and Dan Colburn on guitars, Jeff on bass, and Shaun Coe on drums. The band plays the Alley w/ JFA, the Vault w/ TSOL and a few other shows. Shaun, also playing drums in DMF, leaves and is replaced by Steve Drt.
2007 - After rehabbing a broken arm, Dan decides not to continue playing w/ the Detours. Rikk, after an extended absence, also chooses not to continue. Sean Elliot and Frank Agnew take over on guitars. New songs are being written and new shows are booked for the end of the year; including the Alley w/ the Angry Samoans and the Vault w/ TSOL for October, 2007 - and more TBA for December. |
