Well, 41 years of age and a musical contradiction if you did not know me..but if you did....then you would understand just how much PUNK has affected me! I was first exposed to punk through those good ol' boys The Sex Pistols at the tender age of 12 an original copy of 'Never Mind' that i now sadly no longer own but was dragged all over the country with me and my other records. From then on it was all the usual The Clash,Stranglers,999,Ramones,The Ruts etc.etc.etc. I was very much into the whole dressing up part i think even more so cos i lived in the far north of Scotland and although there were others into the punk scene like me, they were all a bit shy or scared to express themselves in the same way...not me i'm afraid, by the time i was 13 my hair was shocking blonde with razor sharp spikes about the first in the area to look like this and with my brothel creepers and £11.00 (thats 1979)PVC trousers and black ripped shirt and t-shirts i was a punk!!! This was very noticable in small insular towns in the north of Scotland and got you lots of stares and general hassle luckily for me it was not too bad! In time i got into the hardcore punk scene for me a lot of this was shite but there was some truly outstanding punk bands among them the obvious ones were The Exploited,GBH,Dead Kennedys and so on. now i was a bit older i could really get about to see these bands and stuff and have my much loved studded leather jacket,bondage trousers,jack boots and my fuck off cool as shit bullet belt and arms full of tattoos! So, what did i get from punk over these years? I got attitude big time and that allowed me to really be myself and explore many,many other musical styles cos to me punk was a movement and a kick out at trends the true meaning of punk was just to be yourself and express yourself if you were happy being a punk and wearing jeans and t-shirt as opposed to the mohican,spiked hair and studs then so be it but we ain't all wallflowers ...well,i fucking ain't! And so for me i took my punk ethics and headed out into the world to date they have served me well and although i have moved through a musical trend or two i still have my punk records and now CDs and still have that attitude although its slightly more mellow these days. What about me, well punk allowed me to question my religous beliefs and lapse from my catholic upbringing and believe more in science,also it allowed me to really want to do what i wanted to do, not get married or have kids cos i knew i could probably not be faithfull and again i was right maybe a different story these days but i think i'll miss out on the kids and marriage stuff now at 41 who needs not me! I worked a scaffolder for a long time and loved it, gave it up and now face a bit of a challenge with a damaged knee due to my years as a scaffolder. A few years back when most of my peers were still bringing up kids and settling down shit i decided to throw it all to the wind and put a band together and play around the country and a few times in europe its been great fun doing that the last 4 years and again just doing whatever the fuck i please! And what does the future hold who the fuck knows and who the fuck cares! Try to keep healthy and shit and thats that, but at all costs just trying to have a good time!!!
