Liquid Salad
The salad in the crisper bin Creeps slowly out and slowly in
Chorus: It’s romain and endive that’s taken a dive.
The liquid salad slid across the floor.
It rolled up to my bedroom door.
It plopped down next to my pillow.
Then the bag-o-salad uttered “hello”
“I am the salad primeval, and it is the dawn of a new salad empire.
Organic, immaculate, we are highly evolved species,
decomposed, then reborn in brown liquid splendor.”
Chorus
The liquid salad told me its stories
about previous lives and former glories.
It’s a triple-jet-washed, mixed-green oddity,
and this is what the mutant salad said to me.
“It is time to go into the night and hunt victims for the feast.
I like beans, cucumbers, slivered almonds, and avocado.
Oh, and of course, the occasional radish.”
Chorus
The bag of salad grew legs and wings,
and flew out the window in one mighty spring.
Sadly, I waved goodbye and wondered when the human race will die. |
