Formed originally during the late 70's in Stoke-on-Trent by the twins
Terry (Tezz) and Tony (Bones) Roberts along with Roy (Rainy) Wainright
and drummer Tony (Acko) Axon, Discharge became one of the new breed of
punk bands amongst the oncoming onslaught of N.W.O.B.H.M. (New Wave of
British Heavy Metal). Frontman Kelvin (Cal) Morris was recruited as the
decade drew to its close with Tezz switching from vocals to drums as
Acko exited. With the help of Tanya Rich introducing the lads to Clay
Records owner Mike Stone, little did anyone know after signing the band
he would produce what would soon become Britain's most visual,
thunderous stamps to break the hardcore soundbarrier worldwide. After
many releases, personnel and style changes throughout their career, the
original line-up of Cal, Bones, Rainy and Tezz recorded DISCHARGE for
Sanctuary Records in 2002 for a very short-lived reunion. Cal could not
perform live shows to promote the LP, so the band approached Anthony
(Rat) Martin from The Varukers and employed him on the mic to tour huge
tracts of land once again. The band continue their influential legacy
in the 21st century releasing a 3 song EP of new material entitled
BEGINNING OF THE END on Thunk Records. -- Chris Corkum |
