DEATH ZONE originally formed in 1981 when Dave Death went to a Damned gig and met upwith Phil Dekay, Ash & Stringer. Dave had been playing in local band called K-OSS since 1977but they had just split up, so he was on the lookout for a new band. Death & Ash had knowneach other for many years, And so DEATH ZONE were formed, the only problem was thatDave was the only member who could play an instrument, so before the band could do anythingDave had to teach Phil how to play bass & Ash had to teach himself how to bang drums in timewith the rest of the raw punk noise!DEATH ZONE played their first gig in a renowned Stoke on Trent venue, called The Vine' where all thetouring punk bands from over the UK played, after this initial gig, Stringer left the band, so Phil Dekay took over on vocalsand we asked Tessa to play bass. This line up would last until 1984.DEATH ZONE went to Twilight Recording Studios in Manchester, and recorded their first demo; including the songs: IHATE THE PIGS/ RELIGION/ YOUTH IS TO BLAME/ and 3rd WORLD WAR; Death Zone now played lots of gigs thenwent back into Twilight and recorded their 2nd demo,SOMETHING'S WRONG/NUCLEAR ARMS-RACE/ COWARDLY ASSASSIN and STREET GANGS, the song The Youth is to Blame from the 1stdemo was released on CONFLICT'S , WHO WHAT WHY WHEN WHERE Compilation LP, which got the band a lot ofcoverage in international fanzines and also in Maximum Rock & Roll and Punk Lives Magazine. In 1984 they met up with Deefekt, who had been booking the odd gig on at The Vine, and was trying tointerview them for his fanzine "Spanner in the Works" the band were too drunk (as normal) and gave lots of silly answers, they also asked him to try out as drummer, they then went back to the studio to do some new recordings, this resulted in theirbest ever powerful songs like SINGLED OUT] ROT IN HELL and KILLER:Rot in hell & Killer were both on the PARTY POOPING PUNK PROVOCATIONS Computation LP.This compilation LP got the band a lot of recognition and many gigs.Tessa would be next member to leave the band in 1986 and Death Zone recruited mark (Dave's little brother) to join on bass.In 1988 Deefekt left the band and joined newly formed KISMET HARDCORE. DEATH ZONE's new drummer would beMagzy ex SOCIAL OUTRAGE drummer, the band would stay with this line up until they split in 1990 leaving Dave & Phil asthe onlyoriginal members, who went on to form a band called ABDERA, a cross of Punk & Space Rock.In 2000, three ex DEATH ZONE members:- Dave Death/ Phil Dekay and Deefekt got together and formed VOLT-FACEwhich was pretty much an updated version of Death Zone under a new name, with the same musical direction of hard- hitting
